Just got back into shooting after a few years off. I purchased a savage 110 7mm (package deal) and tossed the scope in favor of a nikon pro staff 3x9x40. Heres the problem, the rings I have are to far (forward or backward) off to seat the scope. I then trashed the rings in favor of leupold rings and still no go. I had, several years back a savage 110 LA and a 10LE. I had no problems what so ever with fitting a scope on either rifle (especially) the SA. Any recommendations for a brand of scope bases that will do the trick? I think I am looking at around 5.6-.8" of mounting surface on the tube. I really dont want to spend over $50 on bases (and/or rings) but I have to do what works? So, any savage guys or people sporting nikons on a LA let me know.
Thank you in advance.

I've just been thru that with my hunting buddy with the same package. New Savage 7mm mag with the cheapy scope that came on it. He put a Burris 3-9 on it and it wouldn't fit with the original bases.
We put a set of Leapold two piece bases and rings and the scope just fit. I'm not sure what he paid for the rings and bases, but I'm sure it was under $50.00
Problem with the new savage is it's a long ways from the back of the action to the front. Helps if you use a long scope.

In luck, after searching numerous gun shops and such I found a set of bases that work. Reference for those in the futuer that may face similar obsticals:
Millett P/N ST00715 (two 46 Bases)
About $40 for the set...not to bad and worked perfect. I did have the opritunity to go for the off set rings but for some od reason I didnt like them and with the bases the rifle included it put the ring over the action a bit much for my taste.
Faucettb, thanks for the reply...everyone seemed to be out of the leupold bases...I checked that first!
I just had the same problem with a 1963 110
in 3006. I had a lot of help from this web.
I went with leopold 1 piece base. I used leopold dove
tail rings. I had to rotate scope 90 degres so windage turret
is on top and elevation turret is on left of scope. Every thing
worked great. shell still hits back of base a little, but dosn't
hit scope turrets. Shell ejects crisp and far away from mag.
Befor this was recomended to me shell would hit scope
turret. and sometimes fall back in mag and jam.
You rifle is newer and you should use 2 piece
base if sold. I also used a nicon 3x9x40
