One of my buddies brought up a rifle a friend of his had given him to see if he could fix. It was purchased at an auction with a bunch of guns.
I thought you folks might get a kick out of figureing out what is wrong with it.

I wouldnt have even thought that was possible. You just see something new everyday.

faucett,
Not a thing wrong with it at all ... you see, that stock is set up for the latest firing position ... you know the one where you lay on your back, with the rifle and your arms over your head like you're stretching. Of course, you want to be holding it over a good cliff, so you have room to get your head all the way back for a clear view through the scope :p.

that was funny. looks for some upside/downside shooting :D got a chuckle out of it.
Dang, I'd thought a blind man could have fixed that one!

Hmmm, fine looking rifle, but just couldn't get that cheek-to-stock fit that I'm used to!

The old fella who did this is dead, God bless his soul. It makes you wonder why though would someone do such a thing. It's in .243 so recoil probably wouldn't be much of a problem, but with the buttpad slanted at such an angle it must have been uncomfortable to shoot.
Perhaps he had some anatomy or medical problems that this setup solved. We will never know, but, you got to admit whatever the reason this was an interesting fix for it.

Bob,
Thx for the interesting post! It makes me wonder if he knew that it was on 180 degrees from correct, or if he truly purposely put it on that way. If he didn't know it was on "wrong", that's a little spooky if he was out hunting!!!

That is a shame... :(

Did that one belong to the Clinton collection, or Kerry's.

Ray Charles could see what's wrong. That gun is made for the Southern Hemisphere.
ok ... now that I'm done laughing ... I have to admit, that to someone that knows nothing about rifles, it DOES seem somewhat logical that the "cut-out" in the butt stock is simply a recess for where the lever fits in it ... Now, after assembling the rifle that way, and seeing that something is obviously wrong with it's function ... well yah, a blind man should have been able to figure it out !!! OK .. back to laughing again !!!

Just a thought, wondering if it belonged to someone who had to shoot with the eye on the opposite side from their trigger finger?

Well my buddy got the stock turned around. It appears that no one had to do any extra inletting to get it to fit on upside down.
when I took the picture the action had kind of a hitch when you opened the lever and closed it. With the stock on the right way that appears to be gone and it cylces smoothly.
Whatever the reason the stock was installed upside down it was sure was good for a laugh for us gun folks.
Thanks for all input guys.
