I only have 4 lever guns. I have been collecting old military arms for a while and have recently gotten into Winchesters specifically. So far I have an 1895 in .405 a 1926 Model 55 takedown in 30 WCF, a 1951 Eastern Carbine in 30WCF and recently a 1906 Model 94 with 26 inch octagon barrel in 30 WCF.
Aside from the .405 Im mostly looking to focus initially on 30 WCF. I like the fact that I can get factory ammo cheap that I know will work well in the guns. I like to shoot what I collect. I do reload but I have no real interest in reloading 30-30 for some reason.
My last aquisition, the 1906 has a rough bore. Ive been scrubbing it with Hoppes, 7.62 and JB Compound and it looks better. I know it will never be a mirror bore. The lands are strong though so aside from neglect it doesnt look like its shot out. I would like to know the best methods for cleaning these rough old bores. Im assuming that some pitting will be the norm in these old shooter grade rifles, am I correct? Interestingly enough I have a Springfield 1888 Trapdoor made in 1891 that has a perfect bore as far as I can tell. It looks as though it was never shot, until me that is.
Thanks for any help
Dave
