Today is Veterans Day, and after spending the morning on a great hunt with Kdub and his grandson, I left to come home and spend a quiet day at my "in house" office with my wife.
As the years go by, I find myself getting more and more sentimental about what this day really means. To honor those that have gone before, and those that are now doing the job for us at home.
There was a young Spec 4 who gave up his life for me thirty eight years ago, and I hope I haven't let him down. I think about him a lot.
Today, it seems harder to raise the kind of young men and women that truly believe in duty and honor. I hope that is not a trend.
While some recruits may join the service for a career, or just because they have no other choices in life, all of them have an underlying desire to do what is right and serve their country.
It is not easy to give up your life as you know it, go half way around the globe and start all over while earning hazardous duty pay
I know we all salute these fine young people.
" Greater love hath no man than a man who would lay down his life for a friend"
