you do not have to spend a small fortune on a scope-be nice but then you would always have to be concerned about how it looks to keep up with Jones. A scope is an optic that is gonna be used in all seasons with out failure and many times will be subjected to impacts. My suggestion is to pick one out in the 350.00-425.00 range and it should be good enough. If you are asking me what to buy I can only say to try out what flavors that present the clarity that you will not object to an should offer all the benefits of a good warranty and a good cross hairs and minimum power range as you so noted. I personally use Leupold 1.5-5 or 1.75x6 on all my scoped rifles. I thought of BURRIS but I have good success with Leupold and they are truly reliable in all my endeavors here in the Interior of Alaska. You will not regret you're investment if you have to dig a little deeper to purchase one-I know what it means to dig deep but it is a small sacrifice overall.

I like the Simmons ATEC. The one I shoot is 2.8 to 10 power with 44 foot field of view at a hundred yards.

I shoot it on a Remingtion BDL 8mm mag. 220 grain Sierra's at 3080 fps. It seems to stand up to the recoil pretty well. 250 plus rounds thru it.

These scopes run from $150 at places like Midway and are clear and sharp.

Whatever scope you put on a 375 it needs to be able to take a bunch of recoil. I had the chance to look at a lot of scopes when I was driving truck. I got to stop at Cabela's about twice a week so took advantage of the time to compare scopes. The ATEC by Simmons appeared to me as good as a lot of scopes costing three times as much.

The lower power scopes make more sense on a 375. Look for a longer eye relief type: about 5 inch or so. Some makers have them just for the higher recoil rifles.

I bought a weaver grand slam the quality is there but it's reasonably priced. I just put a 2 x 7 burris short mag scope on a kimber montana .325 wsm most my shots are fairly close with some out to 300 yds. but with the brown bears in the same area we hunt I like to be able to see more than hair up close so I leave it on 2 power unless I need the extra power. Leupold's are nice and I have a couple of them but I think they are over priced . the grand slam was $245.00 from natchezss and the burris was $ 259.00 from bear basin.

You don't say what and where you are using your 375 for. African plains or Alaskan alders? Brown bear or Kudu?

What is your budget? $150 or $750? There are a lot of options.

Fixed or variable?

I know that it is tempting to put a low dollar scope on your great rifle. I am in the middle of that battle myself. I bought a fantastic rifle and now realize that I have to spend more $$ on a scope. Great rifles ain't great if you can't reliably hit anything. A 375H&H on Brown bear can be a bit of a problem when the reticle has fallen sideways for your follow up shot.

One other "issue" you might want to consider is the type of rings and bases you want to use. If you do not want to use offset bases or rings, or have those over the ejection port, you will need a scope with about 5.5" of tube length between the bells, minimum. As much as I enjoy using Leupold scopes, the 1.75-6x or 2.5-8x VX-III's do not have enough tube for that. Bushnell's 4200 Elite series does, as do most of the Euro scopes. I do not know about Leupold's 30mm tubes.

From what I have seen, I would go with a Burris or Leupold. I went with a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X32mm on a .45-70. After breaking in rifle and some hunting, it is now beginning to fail. I am thinking of a Leupold Rifleman in 2-7 for this. They are low priced, but according to the Leupold site, fully warrentied!
