My local talk radio station reported today that an intruder broke into the home of an elderly lady. The elderly lady happened to be a CCW holder. The elderly lady held the intruder at gun point while she called 911. The radio station played the recording of the 911 call as the old lady warned the intruder not to approach any closer. The intruder didn't take the old lady's advice, and she shot him in the leg. As the intruder tried to hobble out of the old lady's house, she fired a warning shot over his head. You could hear the 911 dispatcher, who didn't know what was going on, yell "don't shoot him again... don't shoot him again...".

The elderly lady wasn't charged with anything. I think if more radio and tv stations would report these kinds of things, more criminals would think twice before trying anything.

Good for her. Glad she was not charged with anything, not that she should be. These days you never know though, the thug will probably end up sueing her.

I was raised to shoot only when I needed to.. then to shoot to kill. She did great except for the last part! I am glad that she is safe and unharmed. I pray that she will not need a lawyer to defend her actions.

She should have shot him until he stopped moving. "Don't shoot him again." That dispatcher should be evaluated.

The more old ladys, young ladys, middle aged ladys, etc. that learn to shoot the better. Like the saying goes, "An armed society is a polite society".

She should of been trained to aim for the center of mass.
I heard that her grand daughter called 911 and she purposely shot him in the legs.

I want to give this old lady a hug

If it was me, I probably would have emptied my magazine. Then, since I live in such a gay-*** city, San Francisco (execuse my language), I probably would go to jail for it

I heard that on my local talk-radio station too. The host of the show (local) is also a Fla. CCW holder. ( Todd Schnitt, WFLA-970/Tampa.) He thought it was outstanding, and so do I.
I also agree with Lynn....shooting him in the leg on purpose, while trying to be humane and keeping him from escaping at the same time, was a stupid thing to do. A good defense attorney ( the bad guy's )would eat her up in court, for a couple of reasons. A. That she shot him while he was trying to flee....NOT a threat to her. B. She shot to 'cripple and maim' , and not stop a threat to her....'proving' that she acted with malice and intent to harm 'an innocent man that was no threat'.
Yeah, I know that is a farce....just trying to point out that she gave a scumbag attorney a lot of ammo to use against her.
I agree....if he is a threat enough to use deadly force, USE deadly force to stop him....permenantly.

As I understand from the original post, she shot him in the leg when he continued to advance on her, and only fired a warning shot when he attempted to flee. That would leave her in the clear as far as shooting him from the back while he was fleeing. If the Prossucuting attorny wanted to he could charge her with reckless endangerment for the shot over his head, as it could cause a danger to her neighbors. The only bad thing I can see in this is that the public will have to foot the bill for his medical. A center mass hit would have been less costly for the authorities.

Under as much stress as that lady was under, I gotta give her credit for marksmanship! Lets hope the courts look at it the same way. That intruder has no idea how lucky he is. She did exactly what she was trained not to do, and that man is alive because of it. Lets hope the courts look at it that way too!
