Greetings!

I have inherited a 1952 ( # J3262 ) Model 39A rifle.
It belonged to my Dad. He died 11 years ago. Mom died in August and the gun was left to me.

It was last fired around 1966 / 68.

It appears to be in good shape. There is no visible rust or corrosion. The wooden parts have some nicks and light scratches but nothing really deep. I am a guitar collector and I know that this gun is not "mint". It probably is in excellent condition.

I don't know anything about guns. I did some research and I know that the 39A has been in production for a long time.

I need a ballpark value on this gun. If it is worth a lot of money, I would consider selling it. I would rather see it go to someone who would use it ; either a collector or a sport shooter.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. I can be contacted at : bmosher@neo.rr.com

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Sir,

Since you asked what you should do, I suggest you pass this gun down the line of your decendants, and keep it in your gene pool in perpetuity.

If you sell it, all you get is money. But if you keep it in your family, you make history. You can't buy that.

I know I done gone to meddling, but you asked for it.

Sincerely,

Grizz

I'm not sure what you would call "a lot of money". As a pure GUESS, without seeing or knowing anything about your father's rifle, it may be in the $200 - $300 range. That being said, I'd side with Grizz. Keep it. It's a fine rifle for anything you might want to use it for. Even if you don't shoot it, it's a great family heirloom, and once it's gone you may well regret your decision to sell it.

Sent you an e-mail this morning with a little information.
As the others have suggested, I myself would not sell the rifle. But if I had a guitar, I'd sell it in a moment. ;)

Sounds like your guitars mean to you what my rifles mean to me. No offense meant at all.

Thanks to all those who replied.

I understand the heirloom factor. It's the only thing that I have that I once shared with my Dad.

$300.00 isn't a lot of money. I think that I will PROBABLY keep it and mount it in my guitar room..

Thanks again, everyone.

MikeG,

I DON'T LIKE GUNS!!!

It gives me the creeps just having it in my house. I don't even have any bullets for it and it still gives me the willies!

I have been thinking it over and I am going to sell it.

Actually, it must not have been that big of a deal to Dad. The last time he shot it was back in 1968.

It's officially for sale. First $ 300.00 takes it. I'll split shipping anywhere in the continental United States.

Any takers email me at bmosher@neo.rr.com

Thanks,

Coachmoe
