I am shooting a rem 1100 with hastings barrel and iron sights. Have tried scopes and have troublw with moving shots and target acquisition. Have also tried red dots but am looking at the holosights ..are there any advantages/disadvantages to this sight over a reddot type sight.?

welcome to the forum bigjim. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.
My hunting partner has a Mossberg 835 with a red dot sight on it. This fall I killed a turkey at around 50 yards and was amazed at how accurate that gun is with a red dot on it.
I've looked at the holo sight and can't see where it is any different than a red dot other than you seem to have a more open view.
I shoot a red dot on a 44 SHR revolver and it works excellent. It would be a hard pick for me. I personally like the aimpoints cause I've had really good luck with them. Like buying any equipment by quality and it will usually pay you back.
I use an aimpoint 5000, I'm not sure which red dot sight is on my buddy's gun, but it works really well. Here's a pix of it with my turkey. I had turkey jerky made out of the turkey and it was excellent.

This is my wifes Bushmaster Carbon 15 21S Pistol. I mounted an EO-Tech Holographic sight on it for her. The Holographic sight does give you a larger field of view for faster target acquisition compared to a red dot. The sight does take some getting used to, but once you are it's easy to shoot accurately with it. They are kind of a pain to properly sight in. You need to have a really good rest and take your time. Once sighted in they really are nice. If you do go with a Holo sight you might want to consider the EO-Tech over the Bushnell. It's a little more expensive, but it's all Mil-Spec. The glass is 3/16's thick, plus it's weatherproof. Well worth the money. One thing I forgot to mention is it comes in 2 sizes. The model I have takes "N" size batteries, and is a little smaller, (looks more fitting on a handgun). The larger model takes "AA" size batteries which are a little cheaper, and will operate longer. billt.
