Just bought a Leupold 3-9x33 EFR for my .22. Why do people sound surprised when you tell them my twenty two has a leupold?? I think every gun should be treated as effeciently as centerfire and bigbore rifles knowing that they may not perform as extreme but they're also a masterpiece. That is why I am planning on mounting nothing but Leupold scopes on top of all rifles I own. Anyways I got outta the range yesterday and this scope is magnificent. Although I am not an expert in using the EFR/Adj. Obj. I feel it'll benefit me, but also an initial loss if I do not know how to perform with it. The extended focus range is absolutely marvelous when you're trying distant shots even on a .22. My best groups were under .5" with Winchester's 34 gr. JHP at 50 yards which is exceptional for a typical hunter like me. BTW im never putting any CCIs in this barrel ever again or anything that's over 40 gr. :(

Sadly the most accurate load is hollow pointed with cutting edges on the bullet tip which will litterally shread and tear the meat of any small game critters. I think it's ideal for target practice and plinking only ;)

Next to that was the performance of Remington's 33 gr. polymer tip and Winchester's 40 gr. JHP. Both performed well against eachother enough to argue about. I haven't measured exact group distances so I am just estimating, but when I do I'll post pictures of the targets and rifle. These are probably my best bets when it comes to chasing small critters.

The CCI 40 gr. TMJ and Winchester's 45 gr. Dynapoint were both very dissapointing. The CCI flew in doubtless directions whereas the dynapoints were a little more predictable. Preferably, these two types of ammo is better suited for a different rifle. None the less both ammunition will never feel the touch of my barrel again, but has had the privalege to :D

pictures'll be here soon...

You would not get a look of surprise from me. Good rifles deserve good glass. It is all about money and prioritys for me. Your priority allowed you to put a fine glass on a fine rifle and I think you made a fine choice.
Sounds like you found a fine load that shoots fine groups too!
Fine with me,

Great Choice! I have a Ruger 10/22 TNZ heavy barrel target model in target gray stainless with the gray laminate thumbhole stock. I think it was only listed in Ruger's catalog in 2003. I have a Leupold VX-I 2-7x33mm scope on it. Great plinker!

Thanks.... I was thinking of getting the Rimfire EFR model but decided I wanted to shave off all possible weight and gloss seems to match my barrel more. This scope is beautiful when attached with weaver bases on my CZ. Sadly, you'd expect some type of lens cover after paying this much, but it's an additional cost to have. It's a neat piece of work. Have anyone here tried those Leupold accesories (Orange, Bronze, Yellow, raincote lens?)

All I need to do now is find my camera and learn how to post pictures online.

You wouldn't get funny looks from me, either. My 10/22 is basically stock (I did put a an aftermarket hammer and sear in it). The scope on it is a Burris R/A 3-9 that has parallax adjustment down to 7 yards. Not a cheap scope by far- costs about what the Leupold EFR's do...but it's worth it.

i have been using the same scope (Leupold 3-9 VXII EFR) on my 10/22T for years now. it's the best i have ever used for gopher thinning where the targets may range from less than 10 feet to past my self imposed max of 100 yards (perfect conditions only). the only ammo i use on live targets is the CCI Sthingers.
i shoot my rimfires more than all of my centerfires combined so it makes perfect sense to invest in a quality rimfire system to use. another consideration is that a good rimfire system reduces the number of bad hits (even rodents deserve a quick clean kill). i have given up trying to explain to people that the optics are arguably the most important link of the system. those people who understand can tell at a glance what i have on my rifle and why. those who do not understand either don't bother looking at the optics ("ooh, what a pretty gun"), or can think i have enough money to waste ("my $30 scope is just as good" ) but when it is time to snipe that tiny portion of the gophers head sticking out of his hole at 75 yards, then we see what the extra money gets you.
