Does such a thing exist. I don't do any sort of cowboy shooting, but I love the guns. I have an Uberti Bisley that I want to carry in the field and would like a traditional cowboy style holster and belt. The only thing is I can't afford what I have seen online at all.
Is there a cheap version I could at least start out with that will still carry and protect my gun and give me something to put some extra rounds into for reloading? My only requirement is that it fits .38/.357 mag ammo and is dark brown.
Thanks,
Patrick

If you could go back to 1870 you would see many wranglers wearing their revolvers butt forward on the right side in a Civil War holster on a wide black belt with a large oval "US" brass buckle. Reproductions of these rigs are widely available, not expensive, and are certainly authentic.
Actually, most of the "old timers" would probably break out in laughter upon seeing many of the outfits worn today.

Patrick:
Coincidently, I just received Dixie Gun Work's "stock reduction and closeouts" flyer. In it are several belts and holsters listed in the $40 to $60 range. Many of them are hand made.
As an example, you can go to their web site, www.dixiegunworks.com, and search for holster HL7608 and belt BL7706; or call them at 800-238-6785

I ran accross this during my search:
http://stores.ebay.com/411-Western-Store_Gunbelts-Holsters_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm
looks like some real-life prices and a decent product
but I can't seem to separate them from the ebay page
and find a direct web-site for them, as I don't do ebay...
anybody have any insight ?

I'll second Cabela's. I used one if their belts that cost < $40 for cowboy action shooting and it held up nicely.

Well as an avid shooter, hunter and enthusiast of the Old West, you get what you pay for. That is the bottom line.
I do leather work for a living and know that if you want QUALITY it cost.
I love Cabela's and buy fom them on a regular basis, but I can tell you that the holster rigs they sell there are from Triple K leather and they are machine stitched with cheap leather and amde in Mexico. Again, you get what you pay for.
Take it for what it is worth. :)

Well as an avid shooter, hunter and enthusiast of the Old West, you get what you pay for. That is the bottom line. I do leather work for a living and know that if you want QUALITY it cost. I kinda gathered that when I shopped for my rig. It came with a suede lined holster, the pards who know leather say I should have gotten it leather lined. Leather does not hold onto abrasive powder residue and is slicker on the draw. Care to comment?

For anyone interested, Kirkpatrick Leather @ http://www.kirkpatrickleather.com/ is having an inventory reduction sale and are offering some really great deals on belts and holsters. You might have to give them a call for the details, but I just picked up a beautiful western rig for about half price. And by the way, their leather is top shelf stuff.

Howdy!
did ya'll get your holster yet? What did you decide?
Leather Lined holsters are faster on the draw.
Suead is nice but collects stuff.
If you are not worried about the draw, I like using deer tanned cowhide. I like the look and it does not collect stuff and work more as a protecting layer, but it is not fast on the draw.
Two pieces of leather on a holster looks good and is the fastest on the draw, but not period correct. So ya just gotta decide what is most important to you when getting a holster.
If you haven't gotten one yet, Look at Circle KB. They have a holster maker that is pretty good. But like I said before, you get what you pay for and although Circle KB is reasonable, they are not cheap. Any holster rig worth having is not cheap. You would have to see them up front and personal (Good ones and cheap ones) to see what I mean. ;)

I've bought some plain-jane cowboy rigs (no tooling or conchos) at Cabela's for my Vaquero 45 LCs left-hand, right-hand and cross draws. I think I paid $39.95 for plain holsters and the same or less for looped belts. I've also purchased some inexpensive hand tooled leather belts with 45 LC loops and 22 LR loops and holsters, made in Mexico for abour $69 total from some Cherokee Trading Posts and have seen them in Florida in the many flea markets. The ones from the trading post I have also seen sold at $250 or more in some gun specialty shops

Holsters as low as 39.95.
Just have to add that you get what you pay for; nothing against this place or any other brands recommeded. A quality holster will last a lifetime and can be handed down, but nothing says that cheap doesn't work just as well, just not as long.
