Howdy!
Assuming that the majority of viewers will be VETs., I'll ask this.
How do I find a retired Marine? I'm not very WEB WISE, but I did try the U.S.M.C. web site and even spent money on a INTELIUS search. (They stiffed me.)
Master GunnSgt George Vance Mikkelsen.
I last saw him in the parking lot at LTA (or El Toro), in Orange County Calif. in early 1958. He was a fighter pilot in WW II. I believe he retired from that base and stayed inthe area.
Yes , he's probably deceased,(maybe not) but I've something that a family member or good friend may like to have. I could pass on at any time and it would be lost forever.
TIA Pepe Ray

Hi;
Get ahold of your local VA rep. They are very good about helping find veteran friends. You have all the information they need to help. They will put you in touch with the records department in St Louis more than likely. They can definitely help you. Good Luck and God Bless steve

Thanks for responding Steve.
I'll try the VA rep. The WEB is of absolutely NO use.
Ive tried a half dozen times at various Military sites , who are advertising the search service. It's like dropping me into the middle of the Pacific ocean. You'd think a career service man would have a record of his existance, wouldent you?
Thanks again, Pepe Ray

Pepe;
He has a record somewhere. Just a matter of finding it. Camp Pendleton may have info on him. The web is great for some things but finding people reliably is not one. Do you by chance know where he went to high school at? Classmates.com is pretty good about that one. Do a white pages search by his name for orange county. Might get lucky. Maybe just use his last name in case he has passed away, Might locate a relative. Good Luck God Bless Steve

I did a quick search using Switchboard.com (nationwide phone listings) and it only found two listings for George Mikkelsen. One had the wrong middle name (Middle intial "J" and the other is for a George Mikkelsen in Springfield Missouri. - (417) 889-0367. I also did a search for all Mikkelsens in California and came up with a list of over 100 people. You may want to visit that web site and do a little intel on the California Mikkelsens. There's a good chance that you'll come up with a relative in that list.

I've used this site to find other aged service members in the past with great success. I'd be happy to spend a little time for you if you can give me a little more detail about your old friend. Anything for those who've served on our behalf.

Pepe - You might try Headquarters Marine Corps in Quantico, VA at 1-800-336-4649 or 703-784-9310. Their "Retired Activities Section (MMSR-6) publishes the "Semper Fidelis" memorandum for retired marines and may have info in their data base as to his location. Good luck and Semper Fi - Riley

Mr. Ray,
You're talking about my dad, he retired from the Marines in 1960 and flew helicopters for firms like Bell, Hiller, Fairchild etc until the early 80's. Unfortunately he passed away in 1986. His son (my brother) still lives out there near the old El Toro base, in the town now known as Lake Forest. He did 4 years in the Marines, my sister and I served in the AF, from which I retired. Many of my dads sisters and brother still live up near Modesto. If you'd like to contact me I would enjoy hearing from you. You can call my office at 520 533-3408 (I work at Fort Huachuca, AZ) Sincerely M.Mikkelsen

I cannot believe I ran across this 4 years after the post. Hopefully you are still reading this site. I am the son of MSgt G V Mikkelsen. We lost dad 28 Aug 1985. I've run across some interesting info. regarding a crash he was in in 1956 off the coast of Calif. I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi mrgoliath;
I spoke with your sister spring of '06. I'm surprised you didn't hear about this till now. In any case, it's good to hear from you.
I didn't hear about a crash. It certainly didn't touch his face, as he was a handsome man when I saw him last.
I started this search when I ran across a picture he gave me for a Christmas gift when I was 7 or 8. My wife had passed away and I was "cleaning out" in a black mood. Since speaking with your sister I looked for the picture to send her but have had no luck , so far. I'm confident that it's still here,but a batchelders hovel is not the best place to find things.
Thanks for the contact. OBTW, This website seems a little "OUT" for a lady to be surfing or posting. Do you have membership in other similar sites? Or do I not understand how you made the hit?
Best regards, Pepe Ray Libby
