The New England Firearms-H & R catalog shows a single shot rifle chambered for 500 S & W. I've never heard of it.

What is its parent case?

What bullet weights available in factory form?

Ever used one on game?

Thank you.

I have taken a few animals with the SW 500,
1-Bison,using 575gr WFNGC cast at 1350 fps
1-pig-187lb boar,465gr XWFNGC cast at 1250 fps
4 deer- (last year) (2) -395gr WFNPB cast at 1250 fps & (2) -400gr LFNGC cast at 1500 fps.
The cast bullets at 1250 fps had masive damage (inside) of animals ,very easy to track. With the big flat noses (75-83 % meplate) you don't need very high velocity.

The 500 S&W is basically a really big revolver round. The revolver that Smith & Wesson has to go with it is so enormous that some guys use shooting sticks. Like the last guy said, even with very low velocity it does extensive damage because of the bullet weight and force. I don't have any experience with it but I expect to have sore wrists when I do.

Answer to question 1. This is an original case, there is no parent for it.

I have fired the 500 S+W Revolver. With factory ammo(Cor Bon I think). It is a friends pistol. Recoil is not as bad as you might think. The ported barrel helps alot I suspect. Recoil and velocity in a light single shot must be massive I would geuss. I have handled a H&R 500 at a shop but didnt have the money for it at the time. Now it is gone. I am curious what the velocity gains would be from a 20 or 22 inch barrel apposed to the pistol.
