Nearly all of us has one or many pet deer rifles but if it were possible for the rifles to rate us where would we stand? With modern deer rifles, botched hunting shots are probably 99 percent hunter fault and 1 percent rifle fault. Since the proper sighting in, choice of sights, and shooting skills all rest on the hunters shoulders we should be striving to become our pet hunter rather than discovering a pet rifle.I know I would not trade my shooting/hunting skills for any ten pet deer rifles. The point? I think it is time that we put some thought into great hunters rather than the rifle they carry. I am now 77 plus in age and I rate myself as a 95 percent hunter/shooter. If fact I would call it a toss up which of us (me or my rifle) might fail in a given situation Yes, I am tooting my own horn but which would you rather have-confidence in self or in that rifle that you love? You can have both provided you develop what is required. And expect it to take some time and effort.
