I just bought an H&R Model 1871 Buffalo Classic. Can anyone enlighten me on the history of this rifle? Is it a copy of a rifle made in 1871? If so, who was that rifle made by? Any and all info will be appreciated. I just finished loading my first box of ammo. I hope to try it out if and when it ever stops raining.

Kind of an "in the spirit" rifle...were several guns of the 1800's that broke open to load, but none that is a match to the Buffalo Classic.

They are fine shooters, I have 2 of em, one in 45-120(rechambered) and one scoped, plus 2 of the 45-70 Handirifles, all together I have 26 barrels and 14 frames, all great shooters, moa or better scoped, my eyes limit accuracy with iron sights, though.
