View Full Version : Looks like Marlinowners was hacked

It looks as though Marlinowners forum [ http://www.marlinowners.com ] has been hacked. When I try to click on the forums button, this message pops up: ziOxbb shellcode. It takes numerous clicks on the X button to finally close it, after which a whole bunch of threads entitled ziOx appear. Not sure if this was random, or whether Marlinowners was specifically targeted, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that an anti-gunner or anti-hunting hacker was behind it. Hopefully, the shootersforum has better safeguards in place.

Did a search and zi0xbb hacked a whole lot of seemingly unrelated forums this morning.

Turn off Javascript before you go there. Then you can go into the forums. The threads are still there, so they should be back in business before too long.
Be sure your anti-virus and ant-spyware is up to date. We don't know what's lurking in cyberspace there.

Someone has an attack going on Marlinowners.com, the site has been taken over and when I went there I had to shut down explorer via cntr-alt-delete as it froze me up immediately.

Yep, froze up on me also. Good to know what happened. Hope it gets fixed soon as that is my other internet fix.

Larry knows about this and is on it. It looks as though over 90 or so sites were hit over the past couple of days. He wrote this early a.m. Dec 2., so it should be a couple of days yet.
"I just looked at the situation. Ishould be able to restore the site from my last backup about a week ago. Problem is I will have to do that from Gurn's machine. That is where I back the site up to now. I only have dial-up and backup-restores would take all day from my house. I should be over at his house tomorrow night to get the fix done.
Larry"

Folks, IF you're going to check out MarlinTalk, DISABLE JAVASCRIPT FIRST. if you're using Microsoft's Internet Exploder, check out these instructions for turning Javascript on, and select Disable instead of Enable.
http://www.apl.org/libcats/enable.html
If you're using Netscape, Firefox, or Opera, it's easier to find the switch in Preferences.
Proceed at your own risk.

Jack,
Thanks for the advice but if we cannot post or reply there is no reason to go MO right now IMO. That site is mostly for fun and this is the site for learning. Again IMO.

True, you can't post, but you can get caught up on the latest posts if you haven't been there for a while.
Still, proceed at your own risk. There might be some nasty varmints lurking there.

Well it looks like at least you can go there and post now, I just did so. There still is that shell code message thing, and there still might be a chance of picking up some virus or something from there so go at your own risk. Hopefully Larry will have it up 100% soon.
As of right now it is back up!!!

Marlinowners has the nasty ziOxbb visitor again. I think we need to sic Recoil Junky on this fella to give him the henhouse bandit treatment ... only use the big gun for this varmint.

Guys & Gals, if you like sniffing around on hacked boards and hunting grizzly bears with a willow switch, turn off JavaScript before you go to MarlinOwners.

I just got a notification from ziox.org, just like from Larry, about a reply to a thread.
I think it is more serious this time.
