Hey all,

Just joined up today. Bought my very first gun this past September. It is a S&W Sigma .40 and I like it a lot, even though I have only shot one other handgun (S&W 686 revolver) so I really don't have a lot to compare it to.

I got my pistol for target shooting -- anything from targets to tin cans in the woods -- and for home protection should it come to that.

My other pasions are my dogs (7) and my Buick Grand National.

So..............there you have it.

Welcome,Renthorin
We like guys like you.
I've got a S&W too;a little Model 36.It's not for fun;just security.
I have just one dog,a beagle named Floyd. We had a Dalmation named Jasper for 15 years but he had to be put down 3 days ago.
I'm not a wild fan,but most of my cars have been Fords.
There's a lot of diversity here,but it's friendly
Frank

Hey Frank. My uncle lived in Newburgh for as long as I can remember but recently moved to SC.

Fords are fine in my book, well.....the Mustang anyway ;-)

Thanks for the hello.

Iowaloha Renthorin,
I like to shoot just for the pure pleasure of it. Sold a 1957 Plymouth Plaza that I bought late in the 70's about a year ago. I miss that car. Had a trunk that could sleep three!
My family of four have a black lab named Sassy. She is about 80lbs. of slobbering good natured pooch.
Nice to meet ya,
Jim aka Cheezywan

Hey Jim, I really like shooting for fun too. Often during the day I find myself daydreaming of the next time I get to the range.

I shot about 200 rounds last time I went camping. Set up some tin cans on a fallen log and went down the line from about 40 feet out.

Me and my wife have no kids but with 7 dogs......do we need any? :-)

6 Siberian Huskies and 1 terrified little Border Collie.

The Plaza was a HUGE car!!! :-)

Welcome to the forum. Rules are simple, be nice and join in.

I live out in Idaho and do a lot of plinking with my revolvers. Had a Smith 4013 Tactical, nice shooting gun, just hated the way it threw my brass away (I reload) so it ended up getting traded for one of Taurus's 41 mag Trackers.

Got one dog, a 60 pound black lab that follows me around all the time. Her name is Lilly.

It's ok to have a buick, most of the members will forgive you.

Welcome again.

Hey don't down the buicks, those GNXs were great!

Bob - I don't reload but I do recycly my brass at the local range. Next time I go into the woods to shoot targets I will bring some kind of sheet with me to catch the brass.

Most of it fell into the ferns and grass and was not recovered.

My friend who was with me was getting pretty good at catching them as they were ejected :-)

Matt - sadly I only have a GN, not a GNX but hey......0-60 in under 5 seconds is still fun :-)

Renthorin, Swany here welcome fellow Michigander, what part? Howard City here about 35 miles north of Grand Rapids. Have a lot of fun here and you'll garner many friends and loads of information from very good folks.

Swany, thanks for the hello. I am from the Chelsea/Dexter area, over by Ann Arbor.

As you are also from MI I will give you more information than you probably care to know :-)

I go camping in the Mio/Roscommon area. Up in the federal land areas where there litterally is nothing but forests, and the occasional Bigfoot.

I hike about a mile from camp to where there are these deep 'bowls' in the ground and set my empty tin cans on fallen trees and plink away. The bowl makes for a nice backstop, not that anyone is around anyway.

Next spring when I go back (can't find people to tent camp with in the winter) I am going to try shooting some things like unopened pop cans, 4x4 blocks (want to see what hollow points to to them), apples, and such. The empty tin cans were fun to aim at but didn't do much when hit besides fall off the log.

Save your milk jugs and fill them with water. Add coloring for effect. One fun one is to line them all up and see how many it will go through with different ammo. (This could be good to know in the home defense arena). Welcome

Welcome Renthorin! First handgun is always a thrill. Remember the first time I bought one a Smith model 57 and a Colt Diamondback .22 - did the same thing, shot as much as I could afford too. Now I reload and shoot as much as I need to-to be really confident and good you must do that--shoot and shoot lots. Some good people here and if you have any questions or just want to chit-chat were just a moment away. Good shootin!

Renthorin, My favorite backwoods targets are always something mother nature approves of such as Necco candy, Crackers, Unshelled peanuts and a quite a few other items, lots of fun and no clean up is necessary. I used to have a bunch of railroad signal flares (explosive charges with lead bands attached to the rails) they would explode on impact from a .22 even and they were some fun stuff, but alas I was exceeding the fun limit and ran out. Another nifty inexpensive target is small balloons tied to a 15inch piece of monofilement, on a breezy day it can be a challenge to shoot one.
