I have a couple of Simmons red dot scopes mounted on some low recoil pistols. I was just thinking how great it would be if they made scopes the size of these with 1 X magnification and unlimited eye relief that you could mount on the front of the receiver of dangerous game rifles, 375 H&H, 458 Win. Mag., etc. that didn't use batteries and would hold up to the recoil.
Does anyone make such a scope and if not what is keeping them from doing so.
Thanks Bill
Trijcon makes a scope with lighted reticle that requires no batteries. Be prepared to shell out some big bucks.

Two early ones that required no batterise, but did NOT supply their own light. For the Weaver, could rig an alternate light sourse ...never tried to rig a light sourse on a Nydar.
Weaver Quick point of the late 1960's early 1970's...large, but no batteries. Like them, simple and qorked well, but the red dot it projected was something like 18MOA. Made three ways: a side mount for shotguns (built into the sight), with weaver ring bases attached, and one with tip-off mounts.
Nydar (sp?)..a kind of mini-heads up display dates from the late 1940's or early 1950's and lasted into the 1960's but wasn't all that popular. Seldom saw one on a rifle, but did see a few on shotguns.

I think I left something out when I first posted this, the dot or crosshair doesn't have to be illuminated. I'm more interested in the size of the scope and unlimited eye relief.
If someone made a 1X power regular style scope about 3-4 inches long 1 1/2-2 inches in diameter with well defined cross hairs and it's own Weaver style mounts, like the Simmon's Red Dot have on them, and unlimited eye relief it would be perfect for medium to close work, within 100 yds., on game.
Anyone know where I can find one ?
Thanks Bill

There is a Russian red dot scope that has a reticle in it. However, it also has an eye relief. I guess if there is a reticle then you have to have a focus point. If you want a scope similar you can get a scout scope in 1x from Burris. I prefer the scout style and built 3 scout rifles of various types. The scout scopes have a generous eye relief and you can get a fast sight picture. The 2 and 3/4 power Burris is the one I use.

I shoot a 30mm aimpoint 5000 on a 44 mag revolver. Still uses batteries, but unlimited eye relief. Should be no problems with the recoil. They are not cheap though. The new models are the 7000. Mine has a one minute dot which I like. Just need 30 mm rings that will attach to Weaver bases.

Would an occluded-eye type sight work for your pruposes? If so armson makes some very durable battery-less sights.

I have never heard of Armson sights. I looked at their websight but it doesn't give much information about how the sights work. Do you or anyone ealse have one of these and can go into a little more detail about these sights ?
Thanks Bill
