Well, rumors are flying around about Ruger bringing the No.1 Tropical (H model) out chambered for the 9.3x74R sometime in 2006.
Chambering for a European cartridge will be a big gamble for them - most American buyers shun these. The 7x57 has had a fair run, only because of the short cartridge case and the availability of .284 bullet selection. Besides, it's an easy cartridge to like.
Hope it works out for Ruger - doubt if there will be a stampede by the other makers to do the same.

If Ruger does offer the No. 1 in 9.3x74mm, I imagine they have already worked out a deal with a partner (Hornady?) willing to make a run of the ammunition.

Not quite as authentic as if it was built on a 98 action but it could be interesting.

My understanding is the cartridge is the 9.3x74R (R for rimmed), I don't think it was ever chambered in a M98. It's too long without action work and that rim suggests that, at least historically, it was the domain of single shot and double rifles, not magazine bolt actions.

Duh,
I was thinking 9.3x62.
Having a blonde moment I think. Never can tell.

It's in the '06 catalog so it is reality. I'll have to have one because I've given up on finding an affordable Valmet O/U. I just wish it was offered in the 1-S configuration rather than the Tropical. Neither the 9.3 nor the .405 Win really need to be in the 1-H. The same configuration as the 1-S .45/70 with the barrel stretched to 24" would be perfect.
