Gentlemen,
Last week I purchased a semi-auto version of the WWII Tommygun.
I bought the "lightweight" aluminum reciever version.
Any other Auto Ordnance Tommygun owners here?
I have a few questions for fellow owners.

I picked it up a few years ago and shoot it at the local gun club. I get some strange looks and a few comments from time to time. All the best...

I have one of the earlier all steel M1 models that was made by Auto Ordnance before Kahr bought Auto Ordnance. I really like it; the way it looks, the way it feels, and the way it smells. It makes me feel like Sgt. Saunders!
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!
Was invited to shoot a real Thompson 1928A1 at the gunrange a couple of years ago - had both the stick and drum magazines. The owner was kind enough to supply the ammo and even loaded the magazines - can't beat an offer like that!
Had fired the military version in the service many, many years ago (shutup, DOK!), the A2 model. This was more of a hoot and we had a lot of fun trying for accuracy and longest sustained bursts with "somewhat" accuracy. :D
Had forgotten just how heavy those rascals were with a full 50 rd drum of ammo attached!

Gil,Gunslinger and Darkker,
Since the Tommygun is a Christmas present I'm not allowed to handle it yet, other than tucking it safely away in the gun safe. (The wife doesnt think firearms and knifes are good Christmas presents....go figure.)
The first thing I usually do with a new gun is take it apart and clean off the factory grease, oil or whatever other gunk is on it before taking it out to the range.
My question for you guys is how far do you disassemble your Tommyguns for routine cleaning?
Looking at the owners manual it looks easy enough to remove the receiver from the frame, but then it starts to get a little more difficult,
Is it really necessary to remove the Recoil Spring Guide, Firing Pin Pilot, Bolt Handle and the Bolt?
I'm pretty anal about my guns being clean, but I dont want to disassemle the gun any more than is really necessary.
Thanks
Jon

I didn't remove the guide, pilot, and bolt handle from mine. I just cleaned the gunk off the bolt and the inside of the receiver. Whatever that stuff was was kind of like varnish. I probably should have gone further, but I had a little trouble going further with it. I always planned on doing it at some point, but in all honesty, I just never got around to it. I simply haven't shot mine all that much.
Mine shoots reasonably well with FMJ or ball type ammo. It doesn't like hollow points at all. There's almost no recoil, and the muzzle blast, if you can call it that, is more like a pop, rather than a bang.
On mine the front sight, when viewed from the rear, is canted a few degrees to the left. It's noticeable when you look at it, but once you get used to how it shoots, you can compensate for it, and it shoots pretty consistently where you aim. It's another one of those things I always planned on doing something about, but never got around to doing. I'd like to take mine out more often, but it always seems like there are other things that have to be done.
