Wanted for previous attacks on innocent chickens, Rhedd Phoux was caught fleeing the scene of yet another unprovoked and heinous murder. This was the fifth attack on local hens in the last six months. Phoux had the uncanny ability of picking the most productive hen in the house. His latest victim, Ima Leghorn was a daily layer and took pride in her accomplishment of laying the biggest egg every day.

Other hens in the area were very relieved when told of Phoux's demise. One very ruffled hen was heard saying "Cluck cluckcluckcluck cluck cluck." (We're sorry but no interpreter was available at press time.)

Local vigilante and protector of chickens, Recoil Junky, said the stand off was brief but brutal. "I gave him every chance to surrender and be brought to justice" said Mr. Junky, "but he would have none of it. He kept yelling that he would "rather be a fur coat" so I was more than happy to oblige him"

Swift justice for a criminal caught in the act, as it were!

Rhedd Phaux should have atoned for his sins and renounced being a chicken plucker and perhaps he could have escaped the heavy arm of justice for another 25 years, as some other perpertrators of henious crimes have managed to do.

My sympathy to Ms. Leghorn's family - I'm sure she is greatly missed, not only for her egg laying accomplishments, but for her social imput to the local hen house knitting and mullberry wine drinking gathering.

Looks like the folks in Colorado are keeping their henhouse in order :D:D:D.

And what fine weapon was used?!! I don't see a big gaping hole.

I used my old wore out Remington 788 in .223. A 55 grain Winchester soft point on top of some Benchmark in a Remington case with a Federal primer. I stepped it off and he was roughly 220 yards out. I hit him high in the back just behind the shoulder so the bullet must have lost all it's energy in the back bone. There is a very small exit wound like bullet or bone fragment went through.

I still have to skin him out so his last wish will be granted. He's good enough that I'm thinking of having him tanned.

They make a nice little throw rug when tanned. Nice place to put cold feet this time of year while contemplating new articles in guns and ammo on a cold winter night.

Nice shooting and hopefully none of mr. Rhedd Phaux's ken will show up for the funeral.

You know in Texas, we would have strapped him to a gurney and administered the death penalty intraveniously.
Your way is a lot more fun!

Sometimes justice is swift and sure.

What about his doing time as a hat? We see a lot of those up here.

recoil,
Those Rem 788's are a fine rifle...too bad they competed too much with the Mod 700's and Rem killed them! Every one I've ever been around has shot very accurately.

In this period of low pelt prices (coyotes mainly), I've heard of people skinning them out and having the hides tanned, then taking them to a seamstress and having a bedspread/throw blanket made. I haven't done it, but hope to someday. It takes 16 coyotes to make a nice queen from what I've heard, and a couple of fox in the mix would make a striking blanket!

I've had three 788's so far. The first was in ,222 and I shot the barrel out of it and sold it for $100 with out the scope. I have two now. On ein .222 and the .223. I'd like to get one in 22-250 someday. I check the pawn shops around periodically to see if they happen to have one.

I've got a wall downstairs that is going to be my "hunting wall". So far all that's on it is my big whitetail rack from up home. I'll hang him up there. The bedspread/throw sounds like a good idea. It would be very warm too!!

I'm sure I''l have to administer some more vigilante justice before to long. :D
