View Full Version : Has anyone ever chronographed .22 LR from a handgun?
I was looking at Federal's new ballistic table for ammo and looked at the .22 rimfire numbers. In fine print it says they are for a 24" barrel. Has anyone ever taken the trouble to chrono a rimfire load from a handgun?

yep, smith 22a, 5.5" barrel (i believe, i'll have to check) results were 980 fps on average, the extreme spread was on the order of 30 fps (remington hp ammo) the same stuff in my 77/22a spit them out right around 1200 fps.

My four inch Rossi revolver runs about the same numbers. Normally the shorter the barrel the less velocity.
Yeah, I get about the same from a Browning Challenger 2.. think it's a 5" barrrel.

I chronyed some CCI silhouette 22 lr out of my Ruger MK1 tappered bull, they ave 1202fps for 7 shots. The same ammo ave 1185 out of my Ruger MK2 5.5 bull with 10 shots. I normally shoot a few rounds in between strings to make sure I am reset, using "old" waxed lead ammo out of my S&W 617. These will run in the 900 range.
