So outside of hunting season, is there anywhere one could shoot outside and not have to actually go to a range or someone else's private property?

Are national forests or game lands places that you could go? If you could shoot, are there restrictions to what you could shoot caliber or gun-type wise?

Need to check with the local offices of state and federal lands. Some have certain areas closed to shooting due to heavy concentrations of hikers, bikers, horsebackers, closeness to residences, etc.
