Well read the morning news today and this just made my day. I've always like shopping at Cabala's and the nearest was in Nebraska. I used to stop and just enjoy their store when I was trucking.
Now their putting one in Boise which is only 250 miles from my front porch. Close enough to visit once in a while.

BOISE, Idaho Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne says a new mega-store to be built in Boise by sporting goods retailer Cabela's (CUH-bell-uhs) will become, what he calls, "one of the premier tourist destinations in the Pacific Northwest."
Kempthorne today welcomed the announcement by the Nebraska-based hunting, fishing and camping store that it would be opening a 132-thousand-square-foot showroom in Boise in the summer of 2006.
The store will feature preserved trophy game animals in a mountain diorama, an indoor archery range and a large freshwater aquarium stocked with native fish.
It will be the 14th retail showroom in the nation for Cabela's, and Kempthorne estimated that 25-to-30 percent of the Boise store's business will come from out of state.

Congrats! I live in Pennsylvania, so for years the closest store was in Michigan, I think. I made several business trips to Minnesota and managed to squeeze in some time at a Cabela's out there and absolutely loved it! Luckily, a couple years ago they built one less than an hour and a half from me so now I can go quite a lot. I think I went 10 times in the first few months they were open. It's great - accept for what it does to my bank account! :p

Excellent news Bob! I'd heard it was going to just be a warehouse/distribution center, but sounds like it's a real store. Wonder how that will affect all the good gun shops in Boise. Sportmen's Warehouse effectively killed Intermountain Arms/Outdoor Sports but seems most of the smaller gun shops survived.

I visited the local Cabelas, in Wheeling WV, about 1 hour from me, the Sat after Thanksgiving. I took my wife, my son, his friend, My mother and my dad. This was the first time for any of us to be in a Cabelas store. Well we have been back 7 times since. It got to a point that my mother was calling my cell phone as I as leaving work on sat. to see if we were going to Cabelas. But like others have said, watch the bank account, it can clear out VERY quickly.....

Get the Visa Card, I just picked up a Pre 64 M94 in 32 Winchester, courtesy of the points I saved up. They haven't done it recently, but they used to send out certificates to cardholders to get $30 towards merchandise if you went to the store on a certain weekend no strings attached. Talk about giving an alchohlic a reason to drink...

My dad got the card and we all use it some we get more points. We signed up during the holidays so they gave use the $30.00 of coupons, we had a $20.00 coupon form a pair of boots my mother bought me for Christmas, I returned the boots for a different size and they gave us another $20.00 coupon, then the first time we used the card they gave use another $30.00 off, so all in all they gave us $100.00 for the first purchase with the Cabela's club Visa card. That bought dad and I a Lee progreesive 1000 press.

i'm lucky in the fact that Cabelas built in Michigan within about an hour and 15 minutes of where i live and 20 minutes of my parents... so i have to drive right by on my way "home"... The Good Lord only knows how much i've supported Cabelas in the last 6 years or so since they built the place... it's one heckuva chunk of outdoor architecture for sure...
I have never bought a gun from them until Christmas time this last year... i always frequent a small long standing shop that has impeccable service and people behind the counter and very competative prices.. even competative with Cabelas... BUT as a Cabelas Visa holder... they decided to give me a 100 bucks off a purchase over 500 dollars... and i had another 250 in cash accrued on the card.. so the S&W 686+ came pretty reasonable... but of course i then had to buy brass, dies, molds, primers and some different powders....
For most of my bullet casting and reloading stuff i still find myself shopping online at Midway, etc... no one carries a good selection in these parts... unfortunately... hurts the instant gratification factor of playing with new toys when you get the bug up your bum to aquire some...

MOST excellent. That's within stricking range of our forays.
Never had a Cabelas product that was not as presented.
But I do hope they keep moving west.
Rumor has it one will open about 15 miles from me, to give competition to the new Bass Pro Shop being built an equal distance and the already opened Sportsmans Warehouse less than 6 miles away.
Talk about choices!!! :D

Sucks to be you :D
There are two of them here, but are 3 and 5 hours away. There is one being built in Omaha, started already. I cannot wait. There is a Scheels within 5 minutes from my front door...but I suspect I'll be making that trip to Cabela's when they open. Have not set foot in the Bass Pro they built on the wrong side of the river as yet as their advertised prices are the same as Scheels with no 30 minute drive to the wrong side of the river.

Hi All,
Can you just convince these guys to open one in Australia. We are starved on the other side of the pond down here. Even some of your web based sale sites don't send to us.

Welcome to the forum deerndingo.
Sounds like a darned good idea. I think I'll suggest that when I order my next catalog. Do you folks have any "super sporting goods stores" such as Cabala's down there?
I've been planning on building a go cart for my grandbabies and have been looking at a sight down there called Edge products. They sell plans for some really nice looking carts.

We have a Shooter's Warehouse in Spokane about 160 miles from where I live along with a couple of really good places like the White Elephant and Black Sheep, both discount sporting goods stores.
I go to Spokane for my medical care at the VA so get up there a couple of times a month. Boise is further away, but doable on a weekend and it's a really nice drive down highway 95 to get there.
Lewiston our closest big town has a several pretty good gun stores and there are a bunch of good gunshows within a hundred miles that I like to go to.
This weekend I've got a table at the Moscow Id. gun show. A friend of mine and I got a bunch of stuff were taking up there. It runs two days and draws a good croud.
I hope Cabela's puts in one of the big fish tanks like they have in Nebraska.

Bob,
How'd you do at the gun show in Moscow? I remember a great store in Moscow...gas station/gun shop on 95 on the way north out of town, but still south of the university, with lots of African mounts, and the guy always had a lot of big bores. Can't remember the name now...is he still in business?

Just got back from a Boise trip, and had to stop by the new Cabelas there. Wow, nice place.....looks an awful lot like Bass Pro Shops....which came first?!!
Anyway, the "Bargain Cave" will be one of my favorite haunts there. Returns and minor defects. Got a nice heavy duty aluminum cot, regular $88 for $27. Nothing wrong with it, except it takes a herculian effort to get the second end on stretching that fabric to the point that a hangnail against the nylon will probably cause it to self-implode. Lots of good boots and shirts and coats and "stuff" in that room.
Only had about an hour, and it wasn't enough. Was able to hit the very good used gun racks, and the gun library. Elmer Keith museum had to wait for another day. It's worth a trip though, and when you can't take any more, there's a Hooters across the street! I hear they have good hot wings! :p

Shawn that was the Husky Sport shop. Sold gasoline, guns, ammo, fishing stuff and so on. The old fella that ran it either passed away or retired. It's closed down now.
I always stopped there when I got thru Moscow. What a hunter that fella must have been. I think he had two grand slams on display along with lions and I don't know how many Water Buffalo heads. What beautiful African rifles he had.
I never bought much there, but his stock was always interesting and he knew what hunters wanted and stocked it.
Sad to see it go.
I did OK at the Moscow gun show, went up to the little one at St Maries later. Sold my Remington Muzzle loader and bought a new Mossberg 835 camo turkey gun. Ended up trading one of my 8 mags (the older BDL) for a CZ 527 Varmit in 204 Ruger. Boy what a shooter.
Anyway I just ordered a 250 bullet box of 32 grainers and a 250 bullet box of 40 grainers along with another hundred cases from midway for it. The bullets were on sale for $25 bucks a bos. That should set me up for squirrel season this spring along with making it dangerous for yotes up on the prarie this winter.
As I shoot this gun more the more I like it. My grandbaby has pretty much taken over the Ruger #1 in 243 so It's a good thing the CZ came along.
We just got the 3 by 9 Weaver Classic back from the factory, they replaced it free of charge and have to go out and sight it in this weekend (according to her) so she can shoot the big buck I'm getting to old to see no less hit.
Here is the Ruger #1 set up at our gravel pit range. Your looking down big canyon toward the Clearwater River.
This is me with my turkey vest and the new 527 on a bipod a fella down in Boise makes.
The third pix is the new 835 mossberg with my old aimpoint 5000. Talk about a long range turkey whacker.

Bob,
Yup, Husky Sport Shop, that's it. Almost sprung for a Ruger Safari Rifle in 416 Rigby years ago there. But I'm happy with the Lott I got earlier this year, just have to spend some time with it.
Sounds like you are pleased with the 204, and it is a tempting round to me. Sure is some pretty wood on the #1. I can hardly see that Mossberg...that aimpoint needs some green and tan Krylon on it. :p
I imagine that Cabelas is putting dent in the Sportsmen's Warehouse traffic.

WOW..... you all seem to live quite a distance away from the world's foremost outfitter. Well, I live in Corcoran MN and the nearest Cabela's is about 7 1/2 minutes away; the next furthest is pretty close to the border of Iowa totaling less than 250 miles -sorry Faucett =) , so I enjoy stopping there once in a while. And the great thing about the twin cities here in Minnesota is that there are multiple (maybe 6-8) Gander Mountain stores, so if I was looking for a particular rifle, ammunition, scope, or fishing supplies I would have multiple options. One doesn't have it the others will. Not to mention, there's also many other outdoor stores like Joe's Sporting Goods, or Trails End, or Pawn shops. In my opinion I think Cabelas has the most appealing showroom and it's always a wonderful sensation to step into a store with such beauty and knowledge.
BTW if any of you folks here have been in the Cabelas in Rogers you'll notice the biggest sturgeon in a huge tank. My uncle has caught one much longer and heavier than that one near St. Croix. And if you thought those crappies were humungous my other uncle (brothers) has caught a crappie half the size longer in St. Michael.
Just thought I'd let you know 8)

I've shopped lots of times at Cabelas on the internet, but the cost of shipping to Ireland takes the good out of it. A few times I got stuff sent to my brother in Boston and he brought it home to me. Then 2 years ago I was at a Cabelas store in Harisburg, not far from Philadelphia. Wow what an awesome place.
I'm travelling to Atlanta on the 24th of this month, for the Falcons/New Orleans football game. I know that there is a BassPro shop near where I'll be staying. Can anybody suggest any other sporting goods stores (shooting/fishing) that I could visit in the Atlanta area.
