Please read and fill out petition if you feel that the PA Game Commission has made a big mistake by having so many doe hunts.

I wonder how many of the hunters now complaining about the low numbers of deer were strong supporters of Dr. Alts' scheme to decimate the herd a few years ago on the promise of more big bucks - not realizing that when doe numbers are reduced by 90%, the number of buck fawns being produced is also reduced by 90%.

I opposed Dr. Alt's scheme when it first appeared. Most hunters appeared to support his scheme and many hunters were almost radical in their support of him. Unfortunately it will take years to undo the damage he has caused. It is likely the damage will not be totally undone because of the political nature of the Commission appointees and the economic costs of a larger deer herd.

The number of deer killed during the rut along I70 and I80 by automobiles during the rut has been drastically reduced and the number taken to a local processing plant this year declined about 75% even from last year. Thus the insurance companies benefit from fewer deer collision claims and the livestock industry benefits from an increased demand for non-venison meat. The sporting goods stores were probably little affected because the hunters still bought hunting licenses, ammunition, and equipment. The PGC and County Treasurers benefit from the higher number of antlerless licenses sold. Unlike the situation in some western states, a high deer herd in Pennsylvania does not attract large numbers of non-resident hunters and thus benefit the tourist industry.

Even though baiting is illegal for hunting deer in Pennsylvania almost all the sporting goods stores, from small shops to Walmart and even Cabella's at Hamburg in Pennsylvania, carried shelf after shelf of deer bait, with names such as "Deer Cocaine", prior to the season. This indicates the laws against illegal hunting are not being vigoriously enforced and that many Pennsylvania hunters are willing to break the law to continue over-harvesting deer from the declining herd.

My thoughts also. I'd be happy to sign a petition against the PA game commissions deer eradication program. No way am I signing up in support of the Blue law though.

A lot of people put it out AFTER hunting season for the winter & spring. It is wrong to assume it is being used for bait.

What is wrong with having one day of the week that non-hunters can enjoy the woods without having hunting pressure? I don't think the petition is asking to have sunday hunting eradicated, just to have it not be expanded.
I thought Dr. Alt was foolish from the beginning, killing one doe can equal a loss of 7 deer over the next 2 years, if you take all three doe, thats 21 deer in two years

You don't see anything wrong with only being able to gun hunt 2 days a year without taking time off work? Your "non hunters enjoying the woods" argument only applies to State and federal forests/parks. Private land is owned by landowners to use as they see fit. State game lands are bought and paid for by hunters, by license fees, for hunting.

I also believe Dr.Alt was wrong. The amount of deer we see here in Penns Valley has declined drasticlly over the last few years. We has Pa hunters can make a difference in the deer herd but we have to stick together by buying the doe liscence and not killing any does. I'm also a big groundhog hunter and believe that I should be able to hunt ghs.on Sunday and also that we should be able to hunt varmits with semi's . We are one of I believe 3 in the union that is not allowed to hunt with semi's. I am first and foremost a varmit hunter and I take more time off to hunt them than I do deer so I am sorry that I can't sign the petition because I am fore Sunday hunting.

I don't believe it really affects the game commision if you buy the license and don't use it. Hit them where it hurts, don't buy the license, the PGC is all about the money
