I received a very nice nine shot .22 revolver for Christmas from my Dad. He picked it up in a trade at his workplace. The barell is stamped High Standard next to a Longhorn skull with the words Double-Nine between the horns and .22 cal. My question is can this gun shoot other than .22lr? Where can I find other info about this gun?

Thanks.

Should find the caliber it shoots stamped on it somewhere. If it's a 22 long rifle you can shoot shorts, longs and long rifle in it. If it's a 22 mag you can only shoot 22 mags in it.

Thats funny, I have been looking at a Double nine at a pawn shop for $100 I found some info about Hight Sandard Revolvers at http://www.histandard.info/models/revolvers/western.html
Yours is a High Standard Double Nine Longhorn. Does it have the 9" barrel? From what I can tell it is .22Lr

The stamp on the barrel states .22 cal. Some of the information I gathered is if the frame is of aluminum you cannot shoot the magnum rounds from it. Should the frame be steel then it is more likely that it can shoot .22 mag.
My pistol has the W-104 stamp below the ser.# on the frame. I used a magnet to tell if my frame (not the cylinder or barrel, hammer, etc.) is steel. I have the aluminum frame version;5 1/2" barrel, plastic stag horn grips.
I have seen mentions of a W-107 model but I haven't seen a picture. I'm going to take a look at the web site 6string recommended.

It doesn't matter what the frame is made out of. If it is not chambered for the 22 mag rounds it will not shoot them.

Thanks faucettb, I like the way it shoots as is. I just got excited thinking it could also shoot .22 mag.
I haven't shot anything other than .22lr. I would like to try something with less report and recoil.
