I currently own a NEF in 22-250, I'm thinking about taking advantage of the barrel accessory program, but I'm not sure which barrel I would rather have a 25-06 or a 270. Which ever barrel I choose will be my new deer gun. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with either barrel or both? I'm not looking to win any shooting contests with it, it's going to be strictly a field gun.

Yup, Graybeard's NEF/H&R forum is the best forum for info on em. I have 3 .270s, 2 Ultracomps and a Handi, and a .25-06 Ultra. The .25-06 has a 26" barrel vs the 22" of the .270, they all shoot good, so I can't recommend one over the other as far as accuracy. Here's a direct link to the forum...

You may also try http://www.Boartuffoutdoors.com. I've not handled either caliber you mention but have heard good things about them. They may require some tinkering to get the best performance. Lots of great info on NEFs.

I agree with Tom .. check out Boar Tuff Outdoors. I have a .270 barrel that I relaod for ... it's just as accurate as my Ruger M77 bolt gun. So much so that I sold the Ruger ...

Tom, Thanks for putting up that link to Boar Tuff Outdoors, they really had a lot of useful information. As a side note about my 22-250, I've had great success with the gun. I've been shooting tin cans off the tops of fence stakes ranging from 100 - 300 yards. What a fun gun to shoot, I've shot and tested it enough now to confidentally go out in the field and do some real hunting with it!

I have had both the 270 as well as the 25-06 and after a few months got rid of the 270 barrel. We could never get it to shoot better than a 3 inch group at 75yds to 150 yds, after talking to several friends and hunters they to have had trouble with the nef 270 barrel. I still to this day have my 25-06 and would not traid it for another gun ever,it has served me well in the deer woods.

I have NEF's handy rifle in .500 SW mag, shooting from a rest and using Hornady's 440 gr. cast loads
this rifle will shoot one inch groups at 50yds using peep sights. It will also keep my 385 gr. reloads in-
side a six inch paper plate at 100 yds using a rest.
I don't know if a scope would tighten up my groups
because I can't keep one on the Beast! the recoil
is quite severe with these reloads. I've worked up a
load with 700 gr cast bullets using a gas check, the
recoil is almost unbearable, about three shots with
these loads is about all I can handle!! I hope NEF will bring out a barrel in the .460 SW mag with a twenty-six inch barrel.
