I've been trying to find the title of a movie I saw years ago. All I can recall is a scene with a buffalo hunter on a side hill loading big cartridges into what was likely a Sharps sidehammer, buffalo dropping, and a very pale Appaloosa (or black and white pinto).
It's not "The Last Hunt", saw that over the weekend. Any thoughts, or better memory than mine?

Single shot fever's kicking in again, will probably sell my Doug Turnbull 50-110 Mod 71 Browning and pickup another Browning 1885 45-70 (or Winchester or Uberti) and either have it rebored and rechambered to 50-110 or rebarrel it with a Green River 50 Sharps blank ... unless somebody wants to sell or swap a nice 50-110 single shot.

Thanks, Joe

Color, B&W? Aprox when made or any actors you recall?

Don't recall one with a specific horse. Could be any of several about W.F. Cody, including "Union Pacific". Try looking at www.imdb.com and see if anything looks promising.

Wasn't "Wyatt Earp" with Kevin Costner was it? There was a few scenes where he meets the Masterson bros. Wyatt was a buffalo hunter and hired the Mastersons to skin for him.

For some real Sharps action, "Quigley Down Under" is probably the most popular. I believe in the movie "Missouri Breaks" Marlon Brando uses a Sharps (been a long time since I saw that movie, though). He wasn't shooting buffalo, mostly shooting people.

Not sure of your movie, but Brando's rifle in "Missouri Breaks" is a Remington Rolling Block Creedmoor.

The movie is called "The Last Hunt". I came out in mid 50s amd starred Robert Taylor and Stewart Granger. A bunch of Buffalo were actually killed. They filmed the culling on one of the national parks. capt david
