Thanks to Sundog, I've found a good lead bullet to shoot out of my .32-40. Now I'm testing loads.

I looked at Steve's Pages, and his load for H4895 is 16-22 grains. From what I've read, this seems to be a lead bullet load--Ken Waters goes up near 30 grains for jackets if I'm remembering correctly.

Today I shot a series of groups from 16-22 grains. They were fairly accurate. I'll try to tighten them later.

Waters' most accurate load was 24 grains (still relying on memory here.) I'm planning on shooting 22.5 to 25 grains tomorrow.

FINALLY THE QUESTION: Do you know what the maximum load for this caliber is in an original '94 Winchester, using H4895 and a 170 grain gas checked lead bullet? I don't want to hurt the rifle or myself.

AND: If you have a load for gas checked 170's in this caliber, would you please send it along?

Glad to hear about the success. Makes it worth the effort! sundog
