Well, I got a 39A and it seemed to shoot to the right. I waited until I got a tang sight installed to judge it. With the original bead, I had to crank the tang sight all the way left to get a bullseye at 50 ft.
This was uncomfortable to look through, so I installed a front globe and tapped it to the right. Now the tang sight is centered, more or less, and the front sight is about 3mm to the right. Its center is even with the right edge of the ramp.
My question is, is this normal, or would it be a defect? Otherwise, it's very accurate.

sobenk,
Since you indicated your 39A is accurate then there is no defect.
I have a 39A with an early non windage adjustable tang sight. I needed to place shims under the right side to get it sighted in. It is noticably off center but works very well.
Understandably, there is more correction required the longer the sight radius.
On the other hand, I installed a Lyman tang sight on my 1894-1994 .30-30 Centennial rifle, and the windage was ok with no shimming required.
It all depends on the barrel alignment with the receiver and other minor factors as to how much windage adjustment is required to get a rifle sighted in.
Have fun,
John

sobenk, How old is the rifle? If its brand new I would send it back. Like John said it could be barrel alignment in the reciever. It could also be a warped barrel. If so, they should repair it. I have had a Marlin that would not shoot and come to find out the barrel was bent right out of the factory. Just because it shoots good doesn't mean its put together right. If your like me, I know you don't like having your sights moved all the way over. Like I said, if this is a new gun, send it back and make thm fix it. I don't like paying money for something thats just close enough.
Hope this helps some,
Steve
