The 300 Whisper looks good to me. A friend has one but the 220 grain bullets keyhole. Whats your experience with different loads? His barrel came from Foxridge.

The T/C barrels will not stabilize bullets over 200 grains - they have the slow 10" twist. The SSK barrels have the thight twist and they will stabilize the long, heavy bullets up to the old 250 Sierras.

I have a SSK 300 whisper barrel that's 24 inches with the one in seven twist. Everything frim 125 balistic tips, 135 sierra ssp, 140 bear tooth, 150 balistic tip, 240 sierra hpbt match all shot well. My favorite deer load is the 135 sierra single shot pistol bullet. Velocity of my hunting load is 2250fps and that is with H110. Drills holes clean through deer to 100 yards. Any further than that would be pure speculation on my part. Have shot the 240 to 200 yards. one inch group with the 1300fps loading was the best. With 1.5 to 2 being the norm. Used loads from the sierra manual to start with and worked up from there.
This is powerful "Little" round. Keep the range reasonable and select the right bullit for the job and it will do the job.
I've taken 4 deer with it and none of them could have told the difference from being hit with a 300 whisper or a 300 mag. They all died when hit in the heart lung area.
Good luck. It's a fun round.

Have had one stainless 10" factory barrel, with the 1:10 twist, and 4 SSK's. One of them was a blue 18", one was a 16 1/4" that was threaded and port for JD's suppressor(sold it before I got the suppressor), and one 11" stainless and one 9" stainless, and all with 1:8 twist. The most accurate was the little 9". Shot several 1/4" 3 shot 100 yard groups with the 240 Sierra MK going subsonic. Got several folks into the T/C's after they shot the little whisper. The SSK's shot bullet weights from 110 grain to 240 grains real accurate. Also had a 10" stainless 338 Whisper, with a 1:7 twist, and it shot 300 grain Sierra MK at subsonic very accurately also. And lastly, had a 11" stainless SSK 50 American Eagle Encore barrel. Not sure on the twist, but shot 700 grain .50 BMG AP really accurate too, with subsonic loads. I modified it slightly to also accept the rimmed 500 Linebaugh case, or the rimless .50AE case. So by just switching ejectors, I could shoot rimmed or rimless. Did the same with the 9" 300 Whisper, and used .38 Special, .357 Magnum, and trimmed .357 Maximum cases. I think my favorite was the 300 Whisper, shooting a variety of bullet weights, but the thump of the .50 American Eagle just had that fun factor!
