It looks like I'm about to acquire a couple of Mexican FN actions.
One was from a 1924 Artillery Carbine in 7x57 and still has it's original 16" bbl, which I'd imagine would be a real flame thrower at night.
The other came from a 30-06 rifle or carbine, I'm not sure which, and has been drilled and tapped.
I'm not planning to restore either but I'd love to know some of the history behind the Mauser rifles built for Mexico by FN.
Can anyone help out there?

Hello Kombi1976,
You may well be referring to the Mexican Mauser that has some of the features of our U.S. Service Rifle, Springfield M 1903 Rifle. It used the cocking piece or type if you will and I believe used a similar safety wing. Highly desireable from both a collectors viewpoint as well as a custom builder of Mausers. Sure others will have more info, but you might want to do a search on your computer for Mexican Mauser and see what turns up. I have never seen one in real life, but they do exist I am sure.

My knowledge of Mexican Mausers is far from complete, but...
The action that has the cocking piece similar to the 03 Springfield, I believe is the 1936 Mexican Mauser. Not certain, but I think that was chambered in 30-06.
There is also a Mexican Mauser that was made earlier than that, in 7x57, that was an intermediate length 98 action. Could be a 1924, I don't know.
There are also some earlier Mexican Mausers that are not 98's....

Find a copy of Mauser Military Rifles of the World by Robert Ball. It has all the answers you are looking for. I have one of those little FN 1924 carbines too, super short little thing.

Wow!
So you actually own one.
How do they shoot? Much recoil/muzzle blast?
I'd love to see a pic.
And what sort of quality is it?
The usual high standard of FN products?
