just did some side by side comparison on velocites between Ruger BH 5.5" bbl and Puma 20" bbl; both 45 colt..255 grn ww home cast with liquid alox.

Thought some folks might be interested.

RBH:---------9.3 gns Unique------------18 gns 2400
-------------------1032 fps --------------1062 fps
Puma------------- 1231 fps --------------1379 fps

Did a "proof test" with Federal Auto Match 22 before hand.
Listed at 1200 fps.:1193 fps in 20" Henry Lever 22rf.

**********Warning, these loads are for Ruger and otherwise strong handguns and rifles. Not to be used in old firearms and/or firearms not meant for magnum strength loads.************************

Edited as per Unclenicks post. I try to be short and and not ramble on, but I suppose I need to learn to at least convey ALL OF THE INFO regardless of length.

Sorry.

Interesting numbers. I'm surprized how the match load did. I would have figured about 1000 fps from a 20" tube. What did you do for a rim? Or was it in an Auto-rim case?

It might be worth mentioning here that the Ruger Blackhawk is a strong gun capable of withstanding magnum pressures and that these loads are too hot for some of the old timers and maybe for some of the exactly dimensioned replicas, as well.
