Winchester 73 is one of my all time favorite westerns and I've always wanted a smaller 22 long rifle.

Got caught up in the plant closing/get em before they're all gone buying frenzy and found a dealer that had one 9422 left, a trapper. Case colored, 16 1/2 in barrel, production allegedly limited to 500. "TEX" in the serial number.etc. etc.

I've been spending my NY mandatory two week waiting period trying to find some more information on this rifle. Not much info out there.

Any experiences, recommendations, with this model?
Any recommended cases for it?

I'll post some pics once I pick it up.

I'm very excited.

Thanks,
George

Congratulations on your find. Bet that two week wait is rough.

It's my understanding that the "Tex" prefixed 9422's were a special run made for CDNN, a distributor in Texas. This special run consisted of your Trapper, the Traditional (20 1/2" barrel, and the 9422M which is a .22 magnum. I believe the total run was for 2000 units. I don't know how it was divided up among the three models.

Mine shoots Winchester Super-X's (X22LR) quite well. Can't help with the case. I just haven't looked around for one. It's a nice little rifle for sure. Only problem is; the Trapper is too short to rest in the notches in the vault. Not a big deal ;)

Know how the "frenzy" thing works. I ended up with two Trappers and one Traditional in the case colored and one standard blue Traditional. Thank goodness for grandsons :D

Enjoy your rifle.

I finally picked it up.
It's so small and pretty.
I think I'm just going to stare at it for awhile.

Check it out.

I have 2 trapper's, one case colored, the other blued. Both are put away as the trapper's are quite rare ducks. Save your box and all papers as they are sure to increase in value. Remember: condition, condition, condition!
