Just wondering the diffierant crimps you use . I use Lee F/C on 30-30 win. The .41 mag I have used RCBS seating die that crimps and seats in one step, and the Redding profile crimp die. I don't see a real diffierance in the two. My groups seem about the same at 25 yds.
Taper crimps are normally used for cartridges that headspace on the case mouth. It can be used for all other cartridges, also.
Both your 30-30 and the .41 Mag headspace on the cartridge rim and can use either the taper or the roll crimp method.

Most folks shooting magnum revolvers use a roll crimp. The magnum revolvers need a heavy crimp to keep the bullets from sliding forward in the cylinder and locking it up when a bullet gets so far out it will interfere with the frame.
Dies for a revolver usually come with the correct crimp type for the cartridge.
I like to make seating and crimping two opperations. This seems to make better ammo than trying to seat and crimp at the same time.
One of the signs of poor die adjustment is revolver cases buckling when seating and crimping at the same time.

I use a Redding Taper Crimp Die on my 45-70 handloads, all the other bottleneck rifle cartridges I load for get crimped with a Lee Factory Crimp Die.
