Another new to casting question.I like the looks of the .452 swc molds in the Saeco catalog but the notes at the bottom of the page say that they will cast up to .3% small with wheel weight metal. This would not leave enough diameter to size to .452 I believe. What would I add to the WW metal to bring these bullets up to the proper size for sizeing in a .452 die?
Thanks Tom

Tin 2-4%. Find some 95/5 solder. This will increase size and fillout somewhat. Most moulds are designed around Lyman #2 alloy or equivilent. The spec on the Saeco mould is 0.452. This may or maynot be the case. Some run big, some small.

Mold makers cut their cavities larger than the sized diameters to compensate for alloy shrinkage and ensure there is enough bullet diameter left to size. My SAECO .45 ACP 200 gr. SWC is cut to .455/.456" (best that I can caliper) which is about right for a bullet meant to be sized .452". Your .3% figure would equate to roughly .001" of shrinkage. That would leave the as cast size about .454" which is enough to be sized .452". It would be best for you to put this question to the SAECO/Redding people to be sure. SAECO molds are my favorite molds so my opinion of them is a little biased. :p
