Last weekend "The Swamp Crawlers" ran dogs on Burnt Island and, as usual, lost some Walkers. Hank called me and ask if I would ride with him to find the dogs. It was cold so we took my 3/4 ton instead of his Jeep. After a cold morning of looking and no finding, we ended up along California Swamp, near the coast and Horseshoe Beach. We came up on an old man sitting near his fire by old old corn field. He had a beautiful Winchester Mod 86 in .45-70 across his lap. After stopping, we ask him had he heard or seen any Walkers? His reply was no. I had to look at that rifle, which he handed me, as we warmed by his fire. Hank ask him what was he hunting? "Bears" was his answer. Then he continued,"Came down by my field here yesterday and a real big Boar Bear was pulling corn!" we could where the dried stalks were pulled down. He continued, "That Bear was walking around on his hind feet stacking corn, like wood, on his front leg!" I kinda looked at Hank, but got no response. The old man continued, "Then he walks to the end of the field, like the great Lord Harry, starts putting the corn down, one at a time!" "OK, here we go",I said to myself. I asked, "What do you reckon he was doing?" "Well", he says, "I wondered myself, so when he left I goes down there to have me a looksee." Hank asked, "So?" "well, you see that bear had him three pigs in a big stump hole and was feeding corn to fatten um to eat"
With that we left...riding along Hank ask if I thought the was lying? "No", I said, "you know Crackers don't lie!" "To He-- they don"t"!!!!!

James,

Are you related at all to Mark Twain? That was a great story. A nice pick up from a boring afternoon at work.  Any chance we can get you into the chat room sometime?

Have a great weekend

MT...We get into some real serious work on this forum, and rightly so. I'm convinced that the people on this forum are head and shoulders than most, plus fine gentlemen, However...a little dilly like this help lighten up the day.
I have more that I will be sticking in on a weekly basis. Maybe we can get Marshall to build us a catagory to stick them in like "Humor". Glad you like it and watch for "Super Coondog" and "The Best Birddog Ever"
Best Regards from The Hammock....James

#Moderation Mode

I went ahead and took Mr. Gate's request to heart and made a separate section for a little light hearted levity in our lives!

I also took the liberty of moving Mr. Gate's tale to be the first post on this part of the forum.

I'm sure we will all enjoy and appreciate the suggestion!

God Bless,
