Can someone explain the difference between old and new wheelweights? Also what year did the new come out?
Thanks

Depends on your location. Are some areas so paranoid about lead that they are requiring non-lead weights be used (usually Zinc).
IF they are lead, then realize that there is no real standard for the alloy of lead used...bascailly are going to use the cheapest they can find. Haven't noticed a real differnce in old lead-wheel weights and new lead-weights.....still a pretty wide variation between two weights, so we tend to melt down large numbers of them to even everything out.

I noted in my Lyman cast bullet manual, copyright 1980 and last printing in 2002, page97 it shows new WW with 4% tin added give a BHN of 13.5 while old WW with 2% tin added give a BHN of 16.5. The older must be harder. Also on page 57 it shows the comp of WW at 95.5% lead + 0.5% tin + 4% antimony. This must be the new WW since my Lyman manual 2nd edition that I bought in the early 70s or late 60s shows on page 237 WW are 90% lead + 1% tin + 9% antimony. These must be the older ones. I don't know when they changed but must have been in the late 70s. Am I right in my assumptions? I know some of the WW ingots I've had a long time are harder than the ones I've cast recently. Am I totally confusing everyone including myself?
