You've been playing Urban Terror, haven't you.

The Remington SR-8 is/was something being built by their custom shop.

The 338 Lapua Magnum cartridge was designed by Lapua, originally based on a 416 Rigby case. 338 Lapua Magnum has the distinction of being the only cartridge designed specifically to be a sniper round.

I was wondering if remington used the standard 700 action to build this as i am going to build on.

Remington used the 700 long action, but they had to do something different for the bolt face and extractor because of the large head diameter (.590").

If you are wanting to build a rifle in 338 Lapua Magnum, you might want to look at Montana Rifleman (http://www.montanarifleman.com/), who sell actions and barreled actions specifically designed for that caliber.
