ive thinking of buying a 17 hmr is this suitable for foxs if so what sort of range of range can they be humanely killed also will federal premium v shok do the job.what are they like for rabbits is the meat edible.i currently use 22lr.

They can kill a fox if you can make the shot. If you are not too familiar with your gun and that caliber, maybe best to see how far you can shoot accuratly on paper. Then take that to the field. Rabbits are very eddible... don't want to be eating Fox though. I know you are asking about eating the rabbit after using the V-max on them. Depends on the shot placement. Head shots are a great thing. Never mess up the good meat.

thanks for reply but what sort of killing range will it have using that sort of ammo,are u limited to head shots or will a well placed heart shot kill at what distance.

On the rabbit, doesn't really matter. If you don't want to ruin the meat that is when you take the head shot if you can. On the fox... as long as you are in the vitals.. head or heart/lung area. Head shot is still best if you can. As far as distance.... that is all up to your shooting skills. I have no problem with taking a fox at 150 yards with a .22. I know my gun and how much it drops at different distances. You have to shoot yours at different yardages and see where your limit is. Anyone can hit a long range target sometimes, but you need to see where you can hit constantly at 100 yards, then go from there until you can't hit a vital area every time. Just learn your limit and try not to go past that. Make good clean kills.
