I'm not sure if anyone has done this type of topic yet (I'm sure someone has) I would like to know who deer hunts with thier handi-rifles? What caliber do you shoot, wood or synthetic or laminite stocks, scope preference, and what kind of distances are people shooting them at?

The reason for me asking this is because I would like to hunt deer with my handi-rifle this year and I'm trying to gather up as much information as I can on the topic. Thanks a bunch everyone I value you all your advice and opinions.

This past year I used a .357 Mag Handi with 250 gr BTB in .360 DW brass.

The year before, I used a .45-70 Handi with 405 gr LRNFP.

I thought about using a .30-30 Handi with 311291s this past year, but wanted to see if I could bag one with the .357.

I only have 150 yards max range to shoot, so any of those would have been sufficient.

You failed to mention what cal. you intend to use. I have a buff classic in 45/70 and a synthetic 223 Handi. I have taken deer with both. IMHO I tnink a handi rifle makes a fine deer gun.I have taken deer anywhere from 10yd's out of my tree stand to well over 150yd's. You might want to check out the NEF/H&R fourm at www.graybeardoutdoors.com lot of usefull info there.************ogo

I have killed a couple of antelope does with my .243 Handi. Both handloads, one with 100 grain Nosler Partitions, the other with Speer Grand Slams. Partitions had a moderate dose of H-4350 and GS's had a similar dose of H-4831SC. Both one-shot kills at about 150 yards. 3X9 Bushell scope. This barrel and receiver combination has had both a plastic and wood stock and forend. It seems to be more accurate with wood.

Does anyone hunt with a handi in 7mm-08? I'm leaning towards that as my deer cartridge. I've never owned or shot anything in 7mm-08, but I've heard good things. What are you experiences? I was thinking about a 30-30, but I think I'm going to save that for an open sight project.

I have used the .45-70 Handi rifle, and a .30-30 single shot, for deer hunting with good results. I have since changed to a model 94 Winchester in .30-30, and will never go back to a single. Only once did I need a quick second shot, but I will never use a single shot rifle again.

I don't hunt with one yet but I have put it on my barrel's to get list. I think the 7mm/08 is a good deer cal. Three of my family members have been using it for a few years now with good results. They use both factory and handloads .120 and 140gr*************ogo
