Anyone have one of these? A nearby shop has one on good shape that has been refinished. The markings have been buffed off. Any idea what the value might be? The magazine is tubular but the late model ammo has a spire point bullet. Is this safe on that magazine? I read something years ago that said because of the shape of the round and the mag design it would work ok but it doesnt look like it to me. The first ammo had round nosed bullets. Any info is appreciated. There is new brass available. thanks.
Not a very good thing to put pointy bullets into a tube magazine. Now, the Lebel has a groove in the base of the case between the primer and the rim. Supposedly, the groove was for the lower bullet to rest its nose into the groove. Never saw one personally loaded in this fashion, so can't say the system is foolproof.
If ANY reworking of the old firearm has been done (buffing down and rebluing, stock work, etc.) then the collector value is gone and its now just a shooting piece. Have no idea what the true value would be for it as a plain shooter.

Are some French military rifle collectors out there...but they want the best conditon, un-cut and origianl rifles they can find. Thee isn't much interrest in converted French military guns...and the ammo isn't one of the easy ones to make.
