Gentlemen,
A couple seasons ago, when I owned a CETME rifle, I bought 200rds of 7.62 Nato (308 Win) surplus ammo. I'm pretty sure it was Austrailian, it came 5rds to a black stripper clip. I'm looking to unload the clips, as I have no use for them, but I need to know what kind of rifle they were originally intended for.
They're about the same length as a Mauser 98 stripper, but they're wider and will not work in a Mauser. They're stamped on the back MB01981. They appear to brass and have a heavy black, almost powder coat, finish on them.
What do they fit? A 308 Mauser? A 308 SMLE?
All help is appreciated.

They were origanly made for the Australian L1A1, L1A2, &I think from memory L2A4 (cilp fed 7.62 Bren ) the L1A1 was more commenly known as the SLR . Which of course was sadley superseeded by the AUS Styer in 5.56 to load SLR CLIPS a adapter was used which fitted over the top of the clip!I don't know if they could be used to feed any other rifle

Dave H is correct! Those stripper clips, however, should also work with most other inch pattern FAL's, like the British L1A1 and Canadian C1 versions.
I think that the inch pattern top cover with the stripper clip guide could also be used on any metric pattern FAL, if you would file or grind off the little nub on the bottom of the top cover, so they could slide all the way in place on the metric upper receiver. Most FAL users, however, probably won't be interested in stripper clips, unless they're using them in combination with some type of speed loader that requires them for quickly loading their 20 or 30 rounds mags.
I'm not sure of this, but it seems like those stripper clips should also work with British Commonwealth .308 SMLE rifles. I'll have to leave this for the SMLE experts

I think they may fit the Springfield model 1903 and 1903- A3.

I've tried these with my 1903A3; they don't work that well...
