View Full Version : WWG ghost ring sight
Greetings. What is your experience with the Wild West Guns ghost ring sight (http://www.wildwestguns.com/Accessories/accessories.html)? I've looked at the Lyman and Williams models and they do not seem sturdy enough if they get bumped. I guess I've narrowed my search, for now, to the ghost ring type sight system with "wings". So the XS sights are still on the table atm (for new Marlin 336A).
Can't figure out how you would adjust windage on the WWG sight though.

From what I have heard the WWG sites are very sturdy, however I have had several products from XS and can tell you They are where I would spend my money. They now make a winged ghost ring also, it may not be on their site, but if you call and ask they can tell you about it. I had the unwinged model on a levergun and never had a problem with it getting knocked out of site.

WWG and XS sights get strong reviews from those who own them. I have never had trouble with the ruggedness/durability of Williams WGRS, FP, or 5D. There again, my guns don't get the roughest usage compared to some.
Here is an article by our Beartooth Bullets host, Marshall, that testifies to his faith in the Williams sights on a .444 Marlin for many years of use in the field.

mattpair, Did you use the XS front sight post or stick with the stock?

~20 years of use on a 5D, impressive!

I use an XS, I like the white post. My knock around working in the woods rifle is my 35 rem. and it has a been through a lot, no prolbem with the sights.

Yes I used the XS front post. IMO the Post is the best part of the set up. I love the XS ghost ring but really you could get that from any rear peep sight such as the cheaper williams mentioned earlier. But IMO its the front post with the white stripe that makes all the difference. I can just hit better with a front post or blade style sight than I can with a bead. YMMV.
I've got a Marlin 336A. Did you have someone install the front sight dovetail or remove the whole ramp screwed into the barrel and install the XS post? I should just call XS.
