I have a shooting buddy with a real nice palm rest grip on his AR15. I just got one for my own XM15-E2S from the same gun manufacturer parts source, and got this really cheesy looking "quality deficient" copy. His has a one piece solid palm swell that fits rather close to the grip, and is covered in a non-slip rubber finish. Mine has a two piece -hollow-misfitted palm swell that has sharp edges in hard plastic.
I guess you pay for what you get some times... :(
Anyone know where to get a decent made AR grip with a palm swell? (like my shooting buddy's?) I have been looking through internet sources, but they are very ambiguous as to quality.

I am not sure, but this might be what your looking for. Does not say if it has a palm swell though.

I've replaced the factory grips on my AR's with the Hogue soft rubber AR grips. I just like the feel so much better. I think they were about $20 each. Some other friends have Ergo grips on their's, and like those pretty well.

Hmmm... I like the Hogue rubberized grip.
But the one I was looking for has an adjustable 'shelf' at the bottom end of the grip. It supports the downhill side of the hand just like resting your shooting hand in your other hand. My friend's has a really nice dimpled rubber coating and is fairly solid in construction. It looks like it was made for a 'real' rifle.
 Unlike the one I unknowingly got from BM for way too many dollars. It is of hollow molded hard plastic pieces - and looks like it was robbed off a Airsoft toy AR. Not something I expected from a reputable arms manufacturer.
After mounting it I discovered the sharp edges that can bite the little finger during recoil. I have the ability to permanently position the palm shelf, and then fill in / smooth the rough edges. It's just the difference between the one my friend has and mine is drastic.
...oh well. The search for quality parts continues.

My Bushmaster Varmint Special had one of those grips. I really hated it! That was the first thing I changed.

Funny you should mention 'Bushmaster'... They are the source for the $60 crappy "Deluxe Tactical Grip" that is a cheesy "Chinese copy" like object. (hollow unsupported construction, and bad mold alignment during manufacture.)
It can't be tightened enough to keep it still, and pinches apart at the seams when you attempt to do so.
I removed it and it went to the "box of shame" parts bin.

I can't seem to find an internet listing of the better made (original?) version.

My friend's AR was bought with his already installed, and it has no manufacture ID or makrs anywhere on it. I looks to be a "Hogue" rubberized PSG1 style grip, and is obviously made with the shooter's hand in mind, but Hogue does not show it in the catalog. It's base (adjustable support shelf) is a solid single piece with a internal metal support for tightening the screws against. There are no pinch points (as with the Bushmaster unit) and the fittment is tighter tollerances.

Anyone out there have the source?

Most places I buy stuff from will take it back if I don't like it.

I was going to return it, but then I got to looking at it closely... it can still be used with a little "work".
I'm going to fill in the gaps with plastic - and make it one solid non adjustable piece, fitted to my hand. A coating of rubber 'gasket compound' after the plastic resin and filler sets will (hopefully) make it work quite well.

Found a site for custom grips for the AR's.
