Was wondering if the storm has affected any of you Downunder folks and a favorite hunting area?

News reports mention a pristine rain forest taking the brunt of the damage. Don't know if it's off limits to hunting, or if any board member lives close by.

Thank you for your concern ! We have freinds up that way who have been affected by flooding but Thank God they avoided the worst of the effects ! Out of adversity comes good though. The rain & flooding will hopefully find it's way into the Cooper basin Cooper's creek,Dimondtina & Geogina Rivers which then flow south through the desert (there by causing vegitation through cattle country ) & end up running into Lake Eyre in South Australia ! This is one of the areas that I hunt& the water would really come in handy for the Land owners through out that part of the country as they've been doing it hard !
As for the Rain forrest ? It's pretty resilant ,but is full of Tree hugging wanna be hippies (Hey People the 60's are long gone ) this might move them on & let the forrest get on with being pristeane again

I live in the Upper Sonoran Desert area here in the states. We just went through 143 days without a single drop of moisture. Things are usually pretty dry around here, but this was unusual. Most of the desert plants are fairly drought resistant, however, this past spell may have done some of them in. We've gotten a bit of rain the past couple of weeks that came in a slow, soaking period so maybe the desert will recover somewhat.

We rely on heavy snowfall in the mountains to the north for runoff to refill the impoundments (generously called "lakes" around here) for our drinking water. Only about 1/3 of normal snowfall has occurred so far - might be a dry summer coming up, which means extreme fire hazards. Between the drought, bark beetles and fires, our local forests are having a tough time indeed, these past few years.

Hope your ranchers get the runoff they need to help.

The really amazing stuff about the cyclone was that no one was killed. :)
Christmas 1973 Cylcone Tracey hit Darwin in the Northern Territory, blew the place apart and many people were killed.
There's some really heartrending footage after Tracey hit of a toddler holding a broken doll wandering barefoot wearing only a nappy through streets of obliterated houses.
God knows where her parents were.
Larry's done a lot of property damage but the worst people have suffered physically is lacerations which is miraculous.
Mind you most of the banana industry and the sugar cane industry has been wiped out and that will take up to 3 years to get back on it's feet.
Prices of bananas have already headed up and we bought what was probably the last bananas perhaps for the year.
Caterers are really going to feel it with the tough quarantine laws we have on fruit and the subsequent shortage.
It may be time to stop eating banana splits! :eek:
I dunno, I feel for those people but there are ALWAYS tropical cyclones along the Northern Territory and Queensland coast.
It's a part of life in that area of the country and now and again it's worse than normal, like for instance now.
Where I live it blows most days of the year and the climate is pretty dry.
That makes for cold winters compared to other parts of Australia and people complain.
We're also on Level 5 water restrictions because of a long drought.
But who's fault is it for me living here?

Personally I enjoy the lack of humidity, don't swim a lot and also relish the opportunity of curling up by the big gas heater in winter.
You can always put on another layer. ;)

Ha!!!! I've taken the precaution of buying up 2tonne of sugar! & 8 tonne of Bananas before the price rises ! The wife is wondering how to keep 8 Tonnes of Bananas fresh ! :confused: But at least I'll sleep well knowing I won't be paying the higher prices !!!!!!

PS Dose anyone have a really good recipe for over ripe bananas ??????????????????????????

But seriously, a family friend used to bake banana cakes about once a week and drop them in to my mother.
"You boys love cake".......... :confused:

:D I agree with Aussie collector on this one my Mother years ago only cooked one type of cake Bloody Banana cake !!!!! :eek: I really have trouble with even hving a banana in the house these days
