Boy I had a good afternoon. Work has really been getting to me lately, and I think like most of us here, burning powder is great therapy! And if you get some recoil with that powder burning, all the better!
I went out with:
- Browning 1885 45-70 w/350 gr handloads
- Armalite AR-10 A2 308 w/ball ammo
- Mauser 98 416 Taylor w/350 gr handloads
- Ruger RSM 458 Lott w/Hornady 500 gr soft points
- Charles Daly 22 LR bolt
- Rem Mod 11 "Long Range" 12 gauge
A neighbor took his swing-arm and hand clay pidgeon throwers, a Rem Mod 700 7mm Rem Mag, Browning Auto 5 12 gauge, and Browning OU 12 gauge. We had a great time shooting clays, both in-air w/shotguns (overheads, passes across the front), and on-ground set up in the snow, and targets.
I wasn't paying the attention needed on one shot with the 416 and got a Burris "signature" between the eyes (I'm not complaining!). The 458 sure has some "gee whiz" factor to it, and I was beginning to flinch so had to set it aside and shooot the 22 for awhile (gonna take some quality time with this boomer to warm up to it). Now let me tell you guys, that Charles Daly is a nice rifle, and priced right; don't pass one up if you come across one! It got me out of the flinching too. The Armalite is a fine rifle, and sure burns through the ammo!, but I'll take a good bolt gun over the "black rifle" any day. My favorite? That 1885 is a great rifle. I just like the sights, the feel, and it is deadly accurate. A fine day indeed! :p
