Boy I had a good afternoon. Work has really been getting to me lately, and I think like most of us here, burning powder is great therapy! And if you get some recoil with that powder burning, all the better!

I went out with:
- Browning 1885 45-70 w/350 gr handloads
- Armalite AR-10 A2 308 w/ball ammo
- Mauser 98 416 Taylor w/350 gr handloads
- Ruger RSM 458 Lott w/Hornady 500 gr soft points
- Charles Daly 22 LR bolt
- Rem Mod 11 "Long Range" 12 gauge

A neighbor took his swing-arm and hand clay pidgeon throwers, a Rem Mod 700 7mm Rem Mag, Browning Auto 5 12 gauge, and Browning OU 12 gauge. We had a great time shooting clays, both in-air w/shotguns (overheads, passes across the front), and on-ground set up in the snow, and targets.

I wasn't paying the attention needed on one shot with the 416 and got a Burris "signature" between the eyes (I'm not complaining!). The 458 sure has some "gee whiz" factor to it, and I was beginning to flinch so had to set it aside and shooot the 22 for awhile (gonna take some quality time with this boomer to warm up to it). Now let me tell you guys, that Charles Daly is a nice rifle, and priced right; don't pass one up if you come across one! It got me out of the flinching too. The Armalite is a fine rifle, and sure burns through the ammo!, but I'll take a good bolt gun over the "black rifle" any day. My favorite? That 1885 is a great rifle. I just like the sights, the feel, and it is deadly accurate. A fine day indeed! :p

Shawn hello, sounds like a great day to me too. I was out with the CZ 550 safari a while back, set the "set" trigger, and somehow squeezed one off before I was quite ready, (.458winnie) some stiff handloads 465 gn hc at about 2350fps.
needless to say I was a bit more careful after that one. LOL.
Yep, any day in the field is better than one spent at work.

halfbreed,
I can imagine a thumb knuckle in the nose in your case with the set trigger! I like the looks of that CZ 550, and nicely priced too.

Shawn, you're a lucky man. It was up to 70 degrees yesterday here at the "ranch" and I'm still not able to shoot anything. Got stuck cleaning out the hot tub and hauling "clean" water from town. Was going to grab the Mk II and go plink some small 22 sized steel but the little Mrs. was wagging her finger at me. Didn't even get to watch the race. But this evening I'll get to sit in the hot tub and look at the stars and listen to how her day went. Hopefully next weekend I can get in a good day of recoil therapy. By then I'm going to need it.

Sure...rub it in why don't ya! 13 hours yesterday spent cussing a grove truck crane! I sure hope you're happy now that you ruined my day!

Sounds good Shawn, although some of the mentioned cartridges are a bit too "therapeutic" for me! Glad you had fun.

No kiddin' thats some serious therapy... I hope I get to look forward to that when I'm old and cranky. :)

I haven't been shooting in quite a while... and work is really tiring me out along with school... I only have three more week of school... I think I'm gonna quit my job and get one at Yellowstone National Park painting park benches or something like that. I guess I can't have my pistol inside the park boundary... oh well...

rj, I've seen that finger wag before....so sorry! Spring fever is coming on here too.

mark, Sounds as if you of all most need some recoil therapy after the frustration of mechanical equipment!

IDShooter, It doesn't take much recoil to fix the mind, the heavy ones just knock you back into shape a little more quickly!

matt, Good luck with finals, and go clear your head when it's all done.

I'm good for another couple of weeks now. Only one of my co-workers noticed the "signature" between my eyes on the forehead today, and most would only get a look of confusion on their face if I explained how it happened.

Trap shooting starts back up in a couple of weeks, a couple of rounds a week is amazingly theraputic

Ah, those blue-bird days, not a wisp of wind, and the next weekend, howling wind and jumping clay pidgeons. :p I can hardly wait!

The last of the snow is leaving the valley floor here. Ground squirrels are out, but mostly along the highway, and for some reason people frown on the "Idaho drive by shootings" with shotguns.

I can't even get back to the rockchucking grounds yet, at least locally. They're out in force in the Snake River canyon and surrounding areas, but they need to go to seed first anyway. Targets will have to do for at least another month here.
