I have a Lyman 4500. The lock nut that holds the caliper die/gas check seater broke off flush with the casting while trying to unscrew it. Any ideas on how to remove the threaded in section. It is fully glued in with bullet lube.
Thanks,
Jeff

Might try GENTlY heating it with a propane torch and finding a broken bolt extractor that fits it pretty tight. With the lube warmed up I would think it would come out ok. I heat up around the sizer die on my Lyman #45 to change them out . doesn't take much. I can definately touch it when I'm done heating. Hope you get unstuck.

Agree with the heat...need to melt the congealed lube. If it were my job to do, would take all the pressure off the lube in the sizer first (or empty it...sounds like it could use a good cleaning).

Might try drilling a small dimple in teh shank of that screw...once you get the lube melted, might be able to use a scratch awl (or somthing else pointed) on that off center dimple to work t out far enough to deal with (either grab onto it with a pair of small pliers or slot whatever you get to back out and use a screw driver on the stub).

IF that fails, then might have to take more drastic measures.

Gently tapping it with a small chisel might do the trick after some heat too.

Listen to me, a heavy equipment mechanic telling some one to be gentle

You'll be pleased with the way the Lyman people treat you.
I just went through a problem with a drill press case trimmer.
It became clogged with brass dust and I disassembled it to clean it.When I reassembled it,I bent both tiny springs in it.
I called Lyman, and told them that it was my own fault.
They sent the springs "no charge" and included a credit card for ten dollars toward NRA membership.
Nice folks

The nice guy at Lyman said they would take care of everything. He said I'll have the part in 7-10 days, no charge.
I'm happy,
Jeff

At one time Lyman tried heat treating these so it wouldn't be a problem. Since the heat treating could not be all that carefully controlled it actually made it worse so they stopped doing that.

On the little tool Lyman has for removing that nut, I found that machine off that little raised "lip" makes the tool a lot esier to use.
