I have a 30 carb that I've been trying to get to shoot a 1" group at 100yds with the GI sights. Some say this is impossible but I am getting close. Anyone have good loads or hints that might help? I was able to get 3 shots into less than 1/4" at 25 yds but it opened up to a 4"wide by 1" high group at 100.

The issue with the carbine isn't ammunition, it's bedding. Since there is a steel block the receiver locks into the first thing would be to glass bed that block in the stock. Since there shouldn't really be a need to remove it you could just do a glue in. The next area is the barrel channel which could aslo be glass bedded along with the front portion of the receiver.

If you can get one of these to consistently shoot under 3" in an as-issued condition you have a very accurate carbine.

I have a 30Carbine that gets regular 3 shot one inch roups.
I restocked it with a custom 'Mannlicher'style stock and instaled a red dot sight.
I also epoxied the tang bracket the rear of the receiver to the stock.I then applied epoxy to the joimt between bracket and receiver, but put release agent on the receiver. This gives me a tight, even connection between the two.
I glass bedded the stock and drilled and tappeed a hole in the bottom of the receiver in the area where a front takeup screw would be located.
I replacedthe foreend hardware with a metalcap at the end of the forestock,at the muzzle.I installed a takeup screw.
Because we get freezing weatheraround here,I welded an extension onto the safety(new model).Around 1970,I lost a buck because I could'nt get the safety off with frozen hands.
Yes,the little Carbine can be made to shoot.

Kragman71: I thought I was the only one in the world that did what you did to your Carbine. I "ruined" mine collector wise, but ended up with a real shooter. I got a semi inletted Manlicher stock for it. I did a couple of thing differently than you. I welded a threaded nut on the receiver to hold it in place. I also glassed the tang bracket and a few places along the receiver where possible. I did some internal polishing and on the locking lugs to smooth everything up. I replaced the front sight with a ramp style, highly polished the metal and had it blued. I mounted a 1.5x to 5x scope on a Redfield one piece mount too. I get 2 shots into an inch most of the time. I have found that the 3rd shot will often go high and left. So it can be done if the carbine has a good barrel to start with.
