pastorp, have you checked out

http://www.wildwestguns.com

they have data for your big bore-these are some powerful rounds but it should help out some to give you an idea to start 10% less than there max. loads. I suspect H322 will work very good with hardcast. I have one of their .457 WWG rifles and I use that powder exclusively with hardcast from Marshalls wonderful bullet selection. Hope this has helped.

Thanks Grizz, I've got a good heavy load. I was wanting the equivelant of a trapdoor 45/70 load but for the 50 alaskan. Maybe using 2400 powder. For the 45/70 I always used 24gr of 2400 and a 405gr cast bullet. I just don't know what powders would be compatable with the 50 for a reduced load. Thanks, Byron

I don't have a light load, but you could try some slow buring powders like, H4831, H1000, etc.

Accurate 5744 might be worth a try also. I don't know where you'd start with it thou.

Call Harry McGowen at McGowen barrels, he's built a bunch of 50Ak's over the years and he might have something.
