Why do you think I live in Idaho? It's not for the great wages...
Why i never gave any thought to why you lived in Id.
I thought this topic would be of interest to everyone, not just Idahoans.
Hence posting in General.

Not positive about this- so don't take offense. That Senate bill 1401, might violate some federal provisions. I think the Fed passed some stupid (and 2A, 10A, 14A illegal) BS about no firearms sales/transfers during a state of emergency. I remember it being discussed while the LA riots were going on. I hope states rights trumps that kind of crap!

Here is the text of the addition to the Castle Doctrine You can carry concieled in Idaho without a permit anywhere outside of cities with nothing more than a hunting license.
Senate Bill S1441, Senate Floor Sponsor: Richardson; House Floor Sponsor: Sali. Passed Senate 35-0-0, House 61-6-3.
This bill adds a new section to the Idaho Code to provide civil immunity to a person who uses force to-defend his life, family, or property from those who would seek to harm them or for coming to the aid of another who is threatened. This bill would also allow award of reasonable attorney’s fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income and all expenses incurred by the defendant in defense of civil action if the court finds that the defendant is immune from such action.
Idaho already has a version of the “Castle Doctrine” or “stand your ground” law on the books, but while the threatened person must “have endeavored to decline any further struggle before the homicide was committed,” this person has no “duty to retreat.”
For those interested in reading the bills, they may be found here:

The Brady Center’s report card for state gun control laws has awarded Idaho an “F+.” It seemed possible that the recent changes in Idaho’s gun laws might qualify us for an “F-,” but it seems Brady’s scoring does not go that high so it appears an “F” is as close to a perfect score as anyone can get from the Brady Center.
Right on, Bob! :D
Sure hope more states qualify for an F rating from the Brady Bunch!!

The ONLY useful information that the Brady Bunch puts out! When looking to relocate, consult the Brady data so you know where to move.....to the F-states!
I use our local rag paper similarly. If I'm not keeping good track of the position of political candidates, I can take my local paper list of endorsed candidates and vote the opposite!

Shawn, thanks for the reminder, I may be losing my job in the fall. I am interested in finding these F rated states to look for work. I looked at the bradycenter website but could not find a link to the states ratings. Do you have a link to them? appreciate the help .

John,
I don't have a link to the Brady report card...only what I've read in the NRA mags, and that was not a complete listing as far as I remember. You might try the NRA site and see if they have anything.
And, good luck with the job hunt.

Shawn, thanks for the reply and well wishes to boot. I kept digging around in there site and finally found it. I can't beleive these people are taking credit for so much work others are doing.http://www.stategunlaws.org/viewstate.php?st=ID hopefully this link will go through.

Is there any coal in Idaho?? Any I.U.O.E. Locals?
I think MT's concealed carry laws are about as lax. It's easy enough to get a CCW permit here in CO but it costs $150 - 200 to get one.

The link worked. Idaho sure looks good to me! I especially like the "demerit" that we get for "not allowing local govts to sue the gun industry".
rj,
A little coal in Idaho, but way over on the border w/WY, and then not very much. If we dug too much, the edge of WY would sluff into Idaho. Instead of digging coal, can you dig potatos?

That would mean getting back in a tractor again. I suppose if the A.C. and the stereo worked I could do it. :D Spent to many hours in a Big Bud on the farm to really get excited about it again. I did shoot several coyotes and a deer from the tractor tho.
What union are potatoe diggers? :D

I've been pretty unlucky elk hunting the past couple of years, mostly because of medical problems, but I'd like to blame the wolves. Don't knowif it's a valid complaint, but I guess a hunter has to complain about something.
I do know folks getting good elk, but there a lot more mobile than I am. The deer hunting around this part of Idaho is great.

PotatoE?!! Sheesh, you and Dan Quayle. :p Didn't know potato diggers had a union?!!
I think I could be content in a tractor again, except the diesel prices would probably raise my blood pressure too much. Spent quite a bit of time in Caterpillar D4D and old D6 working the fields early in life, and various John Deere wheel tractors for lighter duty. Wasn't a life of luxury back then though. Had plenty of heat....in the spring/summer when you didn't want it, and not enough in the winter when you really wanted it.
My dad popped a few yotes from the tractor....they never expected it, and never lived to tell the others of the danger!!
